Re judging: my son got a construction job working a 12 hr overnight shift. His crew got off at 7:00am and headed out to get some beer before they went to bed. They sat outside drinking and of course, people saw them. And judged them. "Drinking at 7:00 am? They must be drunkards, and then they're going to go to work drunk." I would have been judgemental. I would never have thought that, for these guys, 7:00 am is just like my 7:00 pm and they're gonna drink a beer and head off to sleep. Let's let go of judging. He was realizing what he is and was and needed to be moving forward. The forgotten kids names was just the trigger. Its not a diagnosis, its mainly just being called a human with the "going back to prison" is more a institutionalized response from jail. But what I think will get him through, is the smarts that he talks about "rebuild a life". Man, what a story teller I saw the first episode and didnt go away once. Great interview as usual, and a great idea to follow up. Michael Dowd is obviously a fast talker, a dynamic speaker, he has a lot of life experience to share and learn from. But, his core personality is to take advantage of anyone he believes is not worthy of not being a victim. He acquired a new skill, and got a new job where they were treating him well, and they accepted him when they didn't have to. They had a meeting and decided to suspend him for "running his mouth too much at work" regarding his outside endeavors involving his past criminal behavior. Instead of him taking the suspension and keeping his mouth shut, he was injured "all of a sudden," and sued them. His old ways kicked right in. A normal person would have taken the suspension, and kept their mouth shut about their side hustles. Dowd decided that the people who gave him a second chance and put up with him promoting a side hustle around a brand that involved him being a criminal, deserved to be sued. So, basically, he ruined a second career because he couldn't be a better person. I believe Dowd is talented, but he's so dirty, that he can't seem to change completely. But, I believe his sincerity that he is a work in progress, and he tries to improve a bit at a time. I wouldn't trust Michael Dowd as far as I could throw him, but I love to hear him speak. He's in the right line of work at this time because he's just talking, what he does best.

Mr. Dowd, as a Fed, Police Department and Federal Agencies should hire you to tell your story to new Officers and Agents. We can learn a lot you. Thank You!
@CodyAnn-kb4uq Жыл бұрын
Mike I commend you for your honesty - it’s raw and forthright and brings a lot to the table for one to think about. Your story, your journey is really about an evolution of hope, and self help- what you said in the end, the biggest thing your learned, is truly about yourself. You have learned to love yourself in a healthy and humble manner, and that’s why you are a good teacher. Thank you for sharing with us all. I, like you, after working as a Police Officer, have dedicated much of my time to others with PTSD. Stopping folks from committing suicide and learning coping skills to overcome the damage and trauma we endure. I would love to sit and talk with you over a coffee and share our journeys- some parallels and some polar opposites, but I know it would be cathartic and a great many laughs none the less! GOD Bless you and yours, stay safe out there!

Wow!! This was probably one of the best interviews I've ever watched. Mike is the real deal. Great questions and great responses! The last question was just as perfect and as poignant as Mike's response, "Love!" I love "love" and I love redemption. Mike said he's a teacher. I'd agree with him, but he's more than just a teacher. He's a bona-fide storyteller. His honesty and transparency wrapped up in his NY vibrato immediately pulls you in for more. I think EVERYBODY has a story to tell. God knows I do. I got pregnant at 16 and thought my life was over. Immediately, I felt like someone with a scarlet letter branded on my forehead. Oh, the stories I heard, but thankfully, the hardships built me, and in hindsight, they literally saved my life. I can relate to Mike. Redemption is real, and it's available to those who work hard for it. I'm a college graduate who owns my own company. I'm a fan of Mike's, and I'm a fan of this KZbin channel. Not because I like to see people suffer, but because EVERYBODY at some point in their lives just want someone to sit and listen. Thanks for sharing!!

I don't usually comment on posts but what you (Mark) said at the end about forgiving people not leaving comments made me write this. I think everybody deserves a second chance. It's easy to point the finger and blame others for things they've done wrong but what we should be doing is helping one another be better versions of themselves. If somebody fucked up but is now trying to change their life around and have a positive impact, wouldn't it be better to encourage and celebrate that? The two interviews with Mike have been great and I with him success in the future.

Another great podcast Mark. Mike needs to be listen to especially by other police officers. He like so many in his previous profession joined up because they wanted to help people. And some have lost sight of why they got into Law Enforcement.

My law enforcement career began in 1990. I remember the Mike Dowd story very well. In 2002, I worked undercover narcotics for two years before becoming a regular detective, who did a few occasional undercover drug buys for the next five years. I can't say I ever felt tempted in the way Mike talked about, but maybe I swam in a smaller pond than in NYC. I thought I was compensated well enough, but there were plenty of people who made the same or more that didn't have to put up with the things I had to, like getting hurt at work, etc. One thing I truly did hate was the Administration, who would rather watch good, experienced Cops leave, in order to hire new recruits for less money, who would make less noise about contract violations, etc. Administrations also had their golden boys, despite how dirty or shady they were, looked the other way as long as they were willing to rat out other Officers. The moniker for these kind of Cops was a "Blue Falcon," which we borrowed from the military and the initials B.F. stand for Buddy F**ker. The only time the Administration seemed to care is when Blue Falcons start costing the City money in lawsuits, etc.

Getting involved with the administration will make you quite bitter. I'm not a cop, but fire, and it's the same with us. I just avoid getting involved and do my job. I'm happy with where I am and have no aspirations to get involved in the political side of the job. I see what it does to people, and no thank you.

I've ratted out people in my life. Does that make me a BF? I believed I had good reasons so I called authorities and reported what I knew. I kinda knew that I would be fired but they would also be fired within the next 6 months. I was correct. The powers that be would be opening themselves to a lawsuit if they admitted what I reported was correct. I understand the assignment and thought it through before I did it. But nevertheless I persisted. The good part is, it was just before the pandemic and I received unemployment for about a year and a half and then took early retirement as I was eligible at 62. I won that one. I'm 64 and have become an active volunteer for the undeserved population. An activist for them and myself
