Just had my Flash 2 confiscated from the tool box in my car by UK customs at the ferry port was going camping in france for the week. I was very upset had the flash II for years, I ordered the terminus today as my legal UK EDC. Thanks for the review.

Wow that is terrible. I do not know that knife but I am not a fan of knives being taken away from decent people. The terminus is a good knife. I use it these days to shave with and my current EDC is the Manly Wasp, since it has S90V steel and is a very hard-wearing steel that takes ages before it needs re-sharpening. Although S90V steel is worthless to shave with as it's super power is a toothy edge.

@@techwg They wrote down that i was carrying a flick knife which a SOG Flash 2 is not. However the blade length was just over the legal limit and its a lock knife. I did bush craft for 30 years plus and always have a fear of none locking folding knives. As a scout leader i saw very many injuries caused by cheap folding knives. I never thought I would be potentially called out as a criminal as I am 50 year old technically director off an engineering company that uses a knife most days for a variety of task, in work at home. They informed me if i had another knife they would have called the police. Good job they didnt open my first aid kit!

Well for every day carry I can see it being a problem but I am not sure about the laws if you are in a vehicle. I know it was a famous person who caused the locking blade issue because they had a locking blade with them in their car, if I recall and now because of this court case we cannot have locking knives because the courts deemed that a lock makes it the same as a fixed blade, which in SOME sense is true. But the point is the law states if you have a GOOD REASON to have a knife, such as a chef on his way to work etc. If you are off to France to go camping, I bet you could have made it a legal issue and won but then it comes down to do you want the hassle and possible public attention. I personally just keep within UK carry law. But even then. some people have had knives confiscated or been convinced to have the knife "destroyed" (yeah.. ok even though it's been seen how fond a police officer was of a knife and kept playing with it etc, I bet it went in his POCKET...) the law is the law and if you know something you are carrying is fine, I'd say respectfully (as possible) challenge it unless you are fine replacing a possibly expensive genuinely UK LEGAL knife. I know in your case technically it was not likely UK legal but I still think you may have had a case for a "good reason" for having it. For gods sake. if you are leaving the UK why should they care? As for france, I have zero information about their laws.

@@techwg As you say I had a ferry to catch and did not know the full legal situation. Thanks for the great comments.

I would probably have done the same, although if that knife is an expensive one, due to knowing the iffyness of law regarding knives, I would have taken along a cheaper one. I don't know how "good" or "Expensive" that knife was, but I have a lovely USMC Ka-Bar knife (fixed blade, full military length) and I would never take it out of the house unless it were either secured with a lock or tape for transport for a legitimate reason OR a SHTF scenario where essentially everything has gone to hell and there is effectively no law, no government, no nothing. Then I might have a fixed blade with me for bushcraft things. But other than that, I'd have to rely on my Manly Wasp with it's long edge retention and my credit card sized double sided 300 and something grit one side and 600 grit the other side. That should be ok as a minimum get-by situation.

Sypderco knife be illegal to carry in UK soon anyway. They are coming after any folding knife that opened with one hand.

1 year on... Edge retention is non existent & the maintenance it requires makes it not worth the bother. Honestly.
