Sorry, I have to call bullshit: 1) Dogs would have caught this guy long before a human got anywhere near him. 2) Chasing a man armed with a rifle into the wilderness like this is tantamount to suicide. He could be anywhere.. under some shrub or on a rocky outcropping...you come around that next turn and boom... you're done. Your partner probably didn't see where it came from either causing him to hit the deck and stay put while the shooter is free to relocate. 3) His weapon is set up for much longer engagement distances than his pursuers, giving him a huge tactical advantage which the police team overlooked. Luckily this guy can't shoot and he doesn't know how to move without leaving a mess behind him, so it all turned out well. I just don't see how this scenario could ever play out like this.
