Oh wow I enjoyed every second of this reaction. So honest. You guys are so nice. Love the first reaction when she started. It was truly angelic and mystical. You guys are funny in this very nice reaction. It's amusing on how protective you feel towards a classic like "You Raise Me Up" and glad your mind was put to ease through her performance. As her fan, I want to say (I can be wrong) that this is the first time you heard her true magic. You know her to be a singer, certainly an artist with her craft, and you may also know that she is a devout Christian. For people who follow her, you will realize that she is a Christian first, artist next and then singer. You know Sohyang's got the voice, and has the skills to perfect her craft. What makes her special is about her offering her true heart in each performance. She said that this rendition of You Raise Me Up tells her personal story, presumably about her faith. That's how she can hit you in the chest with her first note, like it did me. This song was first performed by Secret Garden, then popularized by Gosh Groban. Of course, you saw Shane Filan of Westlife in this Shane Filan Special. You'd be interested in knowing that Josh Groban saw this video via KZbin and invited Sohyang to join him when he toured in South Korea. Also appreciate the comment about Enya, a famous Irish musician. You noticed the incorporation of flute, very much an element in the Irish music. Nice reaction, More SoHyang please... checkout her drama ost songs, like "only my heart knows", you will see her in a new light... :) SoHyang has never failed with her own versions of her covers, instead you feel like you heard the song with much more emotions and much more details, even though its the same lyrics as the original, nothing's added, she gives values to every little details that's not even highlighted in the original, it's so good you feel like you know the lyrics by heart now since you understand to song fully start to end... many who say this and that about SoHyang doesn't even know her well enough to comment on her..

With So Hyang while she has a knack for doing her own thing, she is very perseptive in her sensibilities of how a particular song needs to be presented as she herself states that her main goal in her performances is to get the message of the song across as clearly as is possible for her Infact if you watch a lot of her videos you'll notice that most of her 'weaker' performances are those where she couldn't put her own spin on it either coz it was a special event or she chose not to out of respect for the original artist.

Sohyang as a gospel singer has been singing the Gosh Groban version of this song for more than a decade. So, when Immortal songs invited her for the Westlife tribute episode last year, she decided to re-arrange this song for the show. Westlife popularized this song in the UK back in 2005, so it was fitting for the theme and the guest in the show (Shane Fillan). Sohyang chose to base her rendition on the original version, from Secret Garden. She, her composer and her family (which are musicians themselves and work with her on all her covers) started re-arranging the song, and what you saw was the 7th and final rendition they came up with. The flute additions as well as the Enya-like intro (aptly pointed out by you) were deliberately included as a tribute to Westlifes' Irish origins. As I said this was a very special song for Sohyang, and she wanted to make a cover that also reflected her personal story, and the way her Christian faith shaped her over the years. When she sung this back in April last year, she was just recovering from a nasty bout of pneumonia (the fourth to be exact, in a span of 3 years). She was actually medically consulted to NOT perform, but there was no way she would miss this (Sohyang has been singing more than two decades now to comfort and console people, not for money or fame). And the result was..this. A suggestion. Sohyang has made some immaculate English covers over the years, but watching her emote in her native language is a sight of its own. I'd suggest you react to some of her Korean songs next if you like. "Arirang Alone" immediately comes to mind (its a re-arrangement of a famous Korean folk song, talking about the re-unification of North and South Korea and the end of the civil war in the peninsula), but another favorite of mine is her extremely emotional cover of the sad ballad "Where are you".
