Soi 8 was always a fun Soi. Have stayed at both the Flipper Lodge and the newer Eastiny Place when it opened around 2000. Sorry to see that complex of beer bars has been leveled. Spent quite a few nights there.

I stayed Eastiny Place on my very first trip to Thailand in September 2004. Soi 7 and 8 were a dream come true. what a great first experience. September month at that time was still not a busy time, no traffic, could cross second road without getting run over. Remember fondly when there was a high season and a low season. I had no issues with the low season back in those years. Sure the weather was hotter but I go there for the warmth. Lounging in the hotel pool was heaven. Flipper lodge and flipper hotel used to get a lot of my business on my next dozen trips until they "upgraded" the place. Added a crappy breakfast buffet. I don't eat the same thing day after day, or may sleep in totally so it was a waste of my money to pay the hotel. I remember the hotel having specials, pay 5 nights get 7, etc. Ahhh the tail end of the better days in Pattaya. Still like the place and have made 15 trips from America. now on the cusp of retirement and ready to head there as soon as they drop these last COVID nutty things My memory tells me I met the owner of the Sailor bar back then.

Hey Trev, Is the Sunshine Hotel still open? It looked pretty dead when you panned the camera by it. Every time I've been to Pattaya I always stayed there. Very reasonable rooms and the best buffet breakfast!

just came from Pattaya after a week holiday there after 2.5 years. was shocked but not surprised, imho a shell of itself. Nightlife concentrating into smaller areas. the old model was unsustainable I think. saw an old friend plying her trade on Soi honey after losing her bar on chaiyapoon... so sad for her let's see where Pattaya is at in a year

Cheers again Trev for doing this. Quite tragic really when I think back to all the great night had down 7/8 to see so many of the bars now closed or up for sale. Dave S goes down Soi 8 regularly on his evening jaunts and Sailor Bar is the only place that looks alive. Stood the test of time well. Maybe the cheap cocktails and excellent food are one of the reasons.

I stayed at Flipper Lodge around 2009 and used that "Cut through" you mentioned. It had everything you needed live bands ,pool with exit on Beach road long bar run by very little old lady etc. then but sadly gone like many more.

hi trev another great video had many good nights in soi 8 i remember the cut through i used to play pool in there it came out by the we are the world bar on beach road i used to drink in a small bar i think it was called hang loose we just called it the football bar it was across the road from the flipper lodge the thai owner chai was a great guy he was very popular i have not been to pattaya for a few years now i spend most of my time in the northeast when i go to thailand think i will come out next year and have a look,,

Nice walk. Sailor Bar is the only bar from my early jaunts, 25+ years ago, that is still there ! I used to pop into Sunina Bar, at the far end of the demolished complex, and also Didi Bar, at the top end of Soi 8, who moved to Pattaya Klang, but he sadly passed away some time ago. Brings back fond memories !

Sunbeam and High Five were the two home base when I was staying in Pattaya, Eastiny Inn was closer to the bar where I frequent which was just down stairs. Nice to see they are still there and open except Eastiny. I am suprized to see more than one Eastiny hotels ion Soi 8.

after all the trips and time i have been to Thailand, my memory still goes back to my first and over the first few years best streets, Soi 8. Best vacations I could have imagined. Songkran was fun on that street. I did it one year, but never again. Not fun for a whole week. You can't walk to the mall, go shopping, go eat, etc. without getting soaked. Just too much for a whole week.

12.16 is where immigration used to be and Sailor bar was a german open bar further down towards 2nd road on the same side 31 years ago, in fact there was a lot of open bar complexes in soi 8 back then and soi 7 was pretty much a dark empty soi apart from a complex backing off from beach road, oh the memories.
