I've been coming back to this JAM for years!!!! I can only dream I'll get to a live set one day
@dan50202 жыл бұрын
I didn't realize how lucky I was; a friend had seen them years prior to me at some magical festival at a castle in France; I was in Lyon wandering the streets with my other friend who is a native, and out the corner of my eye spotted a poster with their name on it. Phoned the friend who had seen them (and mentioned them) and inquired as to whether or not they were worth the time; he essentially told me my life depended on it. 30-40 of us audience, on a boat on the river, and these boys played like their lives depended on it, and I can't stress enough just how important it is to act within time. Best of luck and hope you fuel the fire of your dreams.

this is exactly EXACTLY everything that a hard swing jazz composition should ever hope to be. i literally cannot stop listening to it.
@AmAtronliean8 жыл бұрын
hard swing and bebop the same thing?
@alphafemale998 жыл бұрын
+AmAtronliean I do not pretend that I am an expert on the topic, but as far as I can tell from the Wikipedia article I just read, bepop was an anti-swing jazz movement---less danceable, more esoteric.
@brandonvu54298 жыл бұрын
No, it's not. You obviously don't know much about jazz if you believe this is the peak of "hard swing" (that's not even a genre). It's a great, fun contemporary piece, but tell them what you said and they refer you to hundreds of other hard bop and bebop recordings.
@alphafemale998 жыл бұрын
*shrug* okay, beebop then. you must not have read my disclaimer, or else you did, and you got angry anyway. you know, it is possible to correct someone without getting so uptight about it. and i'm happy you cleared it up!
@brandonvu54298 жыл бұрын
alphafemale99 Your "disclaimer" is referring to your knowledge on the names of these genres (that's at least what I got from that), I was talking about your claim that this is the best example of this type of music. Either way, I was not trying to be uptight or angry and try to offend you. I apologize if that's how you took it. If I come off aggressive, please know that it isn't intentional. But I don't believe you should be saying stuff like "this is exactly EXACTLY everything that a hard swing jazz composition should ever hope to be." if you know you "aren't an expert on the topic".

I love love this band,..the kid, (I can call him that, I'm old), he so reminds me of the greats, Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, Burt Bacharach, Sergio Mendes, Count Baise,..I swear, just so elegant, and smooth, the horns, someone else said they just love coming here to hear and see them, don't know if I'll ever get to experience them live,..but getting them here, is the next very best thing,..Godspeed, Peace ✌

This is an AWESOME song with an AWESOME piano part! I love it! I only made that comment because the video I watched before this one talked about "proper" playing, but anyone who knows who Thelonius Monk is is interested in what it SOUNDS like and not how it's ACCOMPLISHED. I guess the ends justify the means, when we're talkin' tunes.

@Hitamaru That is true that most people aren't born with a musical ear. I wasn't born with a musical ear, but I was able to train myself to play by ear. Trust me, it takes a lot of work, but if you are willing to put the work into it, it will be rewarding. The first thing I learned by ear was "Don't Stop Believing," and it took me an hour of replaying the song over and over until I learned the piano part.

@Hitamaru Yes, I agree that the piano solo is cool. Instead of looking for sheet music for it, I would recommend learning it by ear. My strategy is to listen to the song over and over until you memorize how the piano solo goes. Then, once you have memorized the whole solo, then you can try to work it out on the piano. Good luck!

@Hitamaru Not to sound mean or anything, but I looked for around 15 minutes for some sheet music, and I couldn't find it. So I think you're pretty much stuck with learning it by ear. I really hope that you do learn how to play stuff by ear, because once you learn, it's a lot of fun playing.

Let's also consider the fact that it's a music "video" and the pianist might have performed like that for reasons regarding the high energy style or tone the video was going for.
