In the 1840’s a local Southern Creole Gentleman was convinced by his wife to transform an unattractive plot of land in front their home into a garden. The result was about magnificent garden of about 10 acres featuring all types of plants from several continents. Things never last and after his death and the sale of the property the gardens fell into neglect and ruin. However, Mother Nature never sleeps and although the garden went wild without proper care or maintenance, 160+ years of detritus created a rich dark soil of organic matter, teeming with biological life, and just the most fragrant dirt you could ever find anywhere. You can’t buy garden soil this good and rich. The original creator of the garden understood the symbiotic relationship between the various components to create a living garden and a real ecosystem. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you can scrape off the top layer of decomposing organic matter and find a real gardeners treasure.

What do I do if my soil has a lot of clay? More than 20 or 50 percent. Aim is to grow a home vegetable patch.

I have 40% and don't consider that high. Add lots of compost, manure etc. You will have good soil in no time.
