dmnddog74 I agree. He and his team have an energy and a clinical detachment absent in performances by other dancers I’ve seen. This is the only interpretation I’ve seen that depicts a beating heart as a machine.

D'une manière générale, comment ne pas admirer les danseurs - hommes et femmes - qui se soumettent, des années durant, à une discipline monstrueuse de tous les instants pour sculpter et maîtriser leur corps à seule fin de nous donner de la beauté ? Les vrais sportifs, ce sont eux, avec la grâce en plus !

Sylvie Guilleme danced it brilliantly for her retirement show in Tokyo, first time I saw a female dance it although it was made for one. IMO best ever is Jorge Donn with Bejart ballet, totally mesmerising.

une soirée de rêve à laquelle j'ai assisté du poulailler! ca m'a ramené près de 70 ans en arrière quand j'allais aux matinées du jeudi voir les spectacles de Ballets de l'opéra. Que de ballets de l'époque devraient être remis au programme plutôt que les gesticulations de soit disant chorégraphes sans talent qu'on nous imposent aujourd'hui. Cette soirée d'adieux fut fabuleuse même si on se serait passé des discours de Monsieur Galliènne qui comme toujours veut surtout se mettre en vedette. J'eus une idée du personnage avant le début de la soirée; cherchant le vestiaire au niveau de l'orchestre je le vis sortir de là et passant devant moi il me sortit un "bonsoir cher ami" en passant! Que ne ferait-on pas pour être certain de ne pas risquer de froisser une personne pouvant vous être utile même si on n'est pas certain de l'avoir jamais rencontré! Comportement pitoyable! Le pauvre homme!

Let’s start by saying that nobody, in my opinion, can come close to Jorge Donn. Not only did he have that “je en sais quois”, that divine abandon, that spiritual dimension that goes so far beyond anything technical and turns any performance into something transcendent, but from a technical standpoint NOBODY has Jorge Donn’s epaulment, the freedom, fluidity and plasticity of his chest and shoulders are inimitable and what really make his rendition of Bolero so special to me. All that being said, kudos to Mr. Le Riche, he made the piece his own and this is a grueling dance that makes even stars of the magnitude of Ms. Guillem look awkward (not trying to diss her, she is magnificent but not in Bolero IMO). On a separate note, the corps de ballet looks absolutely spectacular. I’d pay just to see them. Bravo!
