I got to see Mark Dacascos in person because I went to his Uncle's and Dad's School. When I was a kid I was absolutely obsessed with the movie Only The Strong

I honestly think he was TOO good for a lot of people. Some people (usually american) get insecure and resentful when they see someone with this much talent, as proven by some of the comments here.

@RLCD Mark will tell he that he is not a capoeirista but has trained in capoeira. aside from his current training in muay thai, he still takes private lessons from Mestre Amen Santo. That having been said, you're talking about someone who had only 3 months of training at the time he did Only The Strong and there weren't ANY actors who did capoeira then. Many experienced capoeiristas auditioned for the role but none could satisfy the acting needs.

One thing i don't see in the community but if i was an acomplised martial artist i would change is having classes geared for women. I think women need to know self defense because weak people beat on women. I always thought if you love someone and yet you beat them why do you stay with them? Yet woman are vernable in those situations & often let it happen becuase they fear losing there partner. I think that in every part of the world there should be free martial art classes for women. Peace

@RPintorO I didn't say he wasn't an accomplished martial artist! He is, and I am a fan of his work. I simply think this particular role would have been better played by someone with greater experience in capoeira, hence depicting it better. Fortunately we live in a free world, where opinions may be stated. If you think I should keep my opinion to myself, maybe you should do the same
@boloisdaman7 жыл бұрын
He faked it well enough. I doubt Michael Dudikoff would have done it better ;)
@RPintorO13 жыл бұрын
@RLCD I've studied Brazilian jiujitsu for 20 years. I don't pass judgement on other forms of martial art. So passing judgement on an accomplished actor/martial artist gives you some form of self worth? Mark has never said he was an accomplished capoeira fighter. Just keep your opinions to yourself bro.

his capoeira skills in only the strong. I'm sorry, but it's true! Every capoeirista that I know (including myself) laughs at the "capoeira" in that movie! The only good parts are when the real capoeiristas play. At the beginning of the movie, and at the end graduation.

I think Hollywood just weast his time of 2001_2019,and not just he,many action stars gone bad after 2000 and when more than ten years passed,they became shit.hollywood weasted the action hero's from 80s,that are all old now.big plan, dirty plan.

@IndiumBlue And again.. I've said Dacascos is a good martial artist! I'm not taking that from him. But he wasn't good at capoeira at the time he made that movie. Like it or not, that's the truth. If you don't like the truth, that's your problem. You just don't have to be an asshole about it! I don't know if Dacascos is making another capoeira movie, but if he is, and by now he actually does good capoeira.. then I'll give him props for that. But I won't give props for the first cuz that sucked!

as for his capoeira, let´s state that mark has some things really GREAT capoeiristas have: discipline, focus and, most of all, fun at it. you see him enjoying that stuff. And, with his preparations from other martial arts, he was really good for the time he played capoeira at that point. yes, there are plenty of capoeiristas out there who are "better" ( a term you can hardly define in capoeira) and more experienced. but hey, this movie actually did a lot for the spreading of capoeira worldwide,
@VaqueiroCapoeira14 жыл бұрын
whether you like it or not. I would guess that of all the europeans and americans who started capoeira in the 90s, like me, 3/4 of them have heard about capoeira via tekken oder only the strong. if you are a capoeirista, try to cultivate a view of things that does not separate in black and white, wrong or right. there are many grey areas in everything. so just chill out and enjoy what capoeira gave you. i do. and i still like to watch OTS. gives me some kind of nostalgic feeling :)
