I love how you hold your bow and can't wait to try it. I was a lifelong cellist but after I graduated college with a major in cello performance my motivation took a dump. Now I'm 43 and, though I don't speak a lick of German, your video has inspired me. My daughter speaks German and I will ask her to translate for me soon. I love your style and your tone---thank you very much. - Charity Grant Madison, WI, USA

This is actually the way to hold the bow in the baroque era, so it's not wrong. Please inform yourself before making an ignorant comment.

[banging head on desk in frustration...] Why do clueless amateurs & even so-called profs see fit to "explain" to the rest of us viewers that she is "holding the bow wrong" (or "funny"), or that she "moves her head too much"? When you have reached her level of artistry you will be qualified to tell her how much she should move her head. Nobody would DARE say that about Midori, nor would they have any right. A musician moves with his/her instrument, she is part of it or if you prefer it is part of her. Some of us move more, some less. As for the bow: One - Last - Time: if you pay attention you'll note that she holds it differently when playing _baroque_ pieces. And there, boys and girls, is your cue. That is the manner in which it was held when baroque music was first written and played. Do a search for Jordi Savall & you will see the precursor to the cello, the viola da gamba, and also see the precursor to our modern-day bows. Now you begin to understand how that previous "grip" came to be...it was the only way to hold the bow of that earlier day and construction.

it's a German thing - on one hand always in awe of the "genius" who just "happens" to be amazingly talented, on the other hand, there has to be criticism, because where would it leave the "average" person if the talent wouldn't be "flawed"...

I am curious as to whether you are using open A & D gut strings for this recording. They look like open guts but I can 't see clearly on the video. Also what is your rationale for still using end pin for the vivaldi concerto? For better projection of sound. As it won't be an entirely authentic setup but then I presume you are still having the cello as modern set up (ie. modern bridge and bass bar etc)

Prodigius Sol Gabetta!! But what about the coments of the presentator about Valencia and the Catalan Culture? I´m from Valencia, do you know anything about the ancient kingdom of Valencia? Our current own identity? Our current politic situation as an autonomous community of the Spanish nation? Valencian Popes of Rome were Alexander VI and Calixto III. Valencia was already a Kingdom when CATALONIAN REGION was by then a bunch of Counties. I beg you to study our true History!! stop to the lies from catalan nationalism. Once and for all!! Please.
