Solar Cooling Fans for Chickens -Easy, DIY, portable, cheap, effective.

A basic video on using Solar panels directly & very safely wired to an electric fan, so as to provide cooling for the chickens in a very hot environment. Providing a cool breeze allows the hot air within the chicken coop or hutch to be rapidly replaced with cooler air, and allows the birds the opportunity to remove the trapped hot air from under their feathers in very hot conditions where they may otherwise struggle in the heat. Of course common sense requires that good animal husbandry practices should also be followed such as providing adequate shade, dust bathing and clean water to the birds. This method of cooling in very hot weather has worked remarkably well, even with a breed known for prolific under fluff and thick feathering.

thats a CPU fan it isnt going to do anything for your chickens...

I know this is an old video but if you (or anyone else who knows the answer) can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Are the connections and the fan itself weatherproof? I live in the Mid Atlantic US and humidity is awful during the hot season. (I'd guess it's hot/humid down under too? *wink*). I do have a part of my chicken run covered so it would be "mostly" out of the elements like direct rain but humidity and leaks that I may not notice could be possible. I don't want to burn my girl's home down.

Informative video, I'm thinking of running this inside my coop. Run PVC duct (with the fan inside) down the center along the roof ridge with cutouts on either side-facing down at a 45 degree angle. My coop has two windows facing front that I have the option of opening. I'm a first time chicken owner so any ideas help.

I love seeing the chooks sitting in front of the fan on that hot day. They're lucky to have such a thoughtful and compassionate owner.
