I saw it in Indianapolis. It was awesome. My dad has never seen one in 89 years. 3 things you have to do in life, be on TV, see a rocket takeoff, and see an eclipse!

Nice Video! I was in Lac Megantic Qc, not very far from where you were. No image taken with a cemara is even close to seing it for real, but it sure reminds me of these unforgettable 3.5 minutes. Thanks for sharing!

I love how you added some epic music to the solar eclipse. Makes it like in a movie. I saw the solar eclipse in Maine too.

Totally awesome to see the entire video!. The part where the sun came back - you could see the light approaching in the sky. Where did you start from at 3 in the morning? I envy you. Exactly what I would have done if I were 20+ years younger, but no way would I be able to hike through snow where you constantly break through, it's exhausting! Plus not being able to drive to the trail head only adds to the hike time. Afraid my hiking days are done. Too many aches & pains, no strength in my legs as when younger, and just get exhausted easier. Last hike of any consequence was Mt. Jefferson in NH in 2022. Aging is not linear, its exponential! Thanks for giving a vicarious experience to a once in a life time event.

If you look closely you can see Katadin come into the light shortly before we did, it was super cool, and Augusta, I left so early because i remember how insane it was during the 2017 solar eclipse. The hike was brutal and much worse on the way out as everyone has been punching through and no real boot pack was set so it was rough to say the least. Glad you enjoyed the video!

I keep going back to your video, because I think it is among the best. I have to ask how you filmed it. I was in Island Pond Vt, and had in a fixed position, on a tripod, a camera to film the eclipse. It was in "auto" exposure mode, and I had the sun just off the top of the screen (for fear of burning out the sensor), while I was busy putzing away on my manual camera, hoping to get a photo of totality (which I didn't). My view was no where as encompassing as yours - perhaps 30 to 40 degree side to side view, from horizon just to below the sun. My video did not get a sky anywhere near as dark as yours, and not the deep narrow strip of "sunset" on the horizon. My horizon was much brighter. It still cast a deep twilight on the people. My only guess is A) you had a much better field of view, being on a mountain, and/or B) my camera filming in auto mode/exposure, tried to evenly distribute what available light there was across the entire frame, thus eliminating the shaper light/dark contrast. I also did not get that sharp contrast approach of the moon's shadow, and subsequent movement away, yielding the sun again. The brief moment I tried to film totality, the camera couldn't quite figure out what to focus on, so it is kind of fuzzy, and the dark spot (the moon) is hardly noticeable - yours is awesome! Thanks again for a vicarious moment with you on Mt Chase! At least I got something.

So you are correct with a lot of things but ill explain. First things first being at the top of a mountain is key, you wont get the 360 degree sunset without elevation its a requirement so get as high as you can. I was also within about 500 feet of the center of the eclipse which also meant it was as dark as it could be. When it came to the time lapse of the eclipse I was using my SLR with a 300mm zoom lens and manually adjusted the shutter speed, I was also using one of those adjustable polarizing filters to prevent sensor damage. As far as filming and catching the landscape at the same time I was using a gopro which has a very wide angle, i was also filming 4k. I had the ISO on auto but only to a maximum of 800 which kept if from getting blown out. The new GoPros are incredible cameras and do a great job. Finally i made some minor color correction in post but i mean minor and most of the corrections were made on clips of me hiking. So key things, Get good elevation, Use filters and control the shutter manually, Modern GoPros are amazing, and make corrections in post Hope that helps

@@HadrianBourdon Thanks for the reply. It helps only in that you have explained that you knew how to prepare for this event, more than a simple point in shoot novice like me. Obviously, being dead center of the max eclipse & elevation helped also. I am a technical neanderthal, and have no idea what a "GoPro" is, or what it means to film in 4k. I don't have the patience to understand/learn things technical (would not know where to start on those minor color adjustments you made post video, for example). Even setting iso to vary only to 800 would baffle me. At least I now know why your video is so good. In a completely unrelated topic, I get a kick out of seeing the dog snap his head around when (you?) shout out just seconds before totality!
