A look inside a solar farm in the Philippines, specifically in Cagayan de Oro, owned by CEPALCO and operated by MINERGY.
This solar power station launched in 2004 as the biggest in the Philippines, with an estimated peak output of around 1 megawatt or 1000 kW.
There are now larger solar power stations being operated by CEPALCO and other companies in the Philippines.
CEPALCO stands for Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company, the equivalent in Manila would be MERALCO.
Inside the solar farm you'll find over 6000 polycrystalline panels which can produce enough power for up to 900 homes. You'll also notice some additional panels and a single-axis tracking system which is being tested by the Renewable Energy Test Center (RETC).

The mosfet like part you were pointing would be schottky diode in a dual diode package to handle higher current around 40A to 80A.

Slowly but surely solar is becoming more popular :) You just have to be willing to wait for the return on investment.

Hello, would you have any idea roughly how much it would cost to setup solar power in a residential unit?
@GadgetAddict
@GadgetAddict 7 жыл бұрын
It depends whether it's grid-tie or off grid with batteries, the required power output, location, quality of panels. But it's a lot, it's an investment that will take 5-10 years to pay back for itself. It's worth doing, but it's not "cheap".
@pinakapanget4560
@pinakapanget4560 7 жыл бұрын
so why do you turn off the panels when the grid is down again? what kind of damage are you going to have?
@GadgetAddict
@GadgetAddict 7 жыл бұрын
It's to ensure the safety of linesmen who are working to repair whatever is wrong with the grid. Pretty much every grid-tie inverter, even the household ones will stop working when the grid goes down. It's a shame they couldn't store the energy in a large battery bank for when the grid comes back up.

Gadget Addict i see. i thought it would damage the panels or inverters, ive been watching a bit about solar energy and a lot of things i see, i don't understand like if you have tree cover on one of the panels, meaning it will draw less and somehow that is not good? if they could somehow tie up with tesla with those sweet house battery packs for a larger scale that would be sweet but realistically its better to have something made locally

It's pretty awesome right? I'd like to see Meralco and other power companies make it a bit easier for home users to install solar. Right now there's quite a lot of paperwork and processes involved. And there's also differing City/Barangay rules about the installation of panels and then depending on your area you might also be affected by home owners association rules.

i'll have to try stop by that one in cebu ;) CEPALCO have a website but it's pretty basic and doesn't have more than a couple of sentences about this solar farm. it's surprising, they have these renewable energy sources but no one knows about them!

What happen if there is a typhoon(Typhoon prone areas in the Philippines) are they gonna dismantle each of the panel and put it on safe place?
@GadgetAddict
@GadgetAddict 7 жыл бұрын
They're mounted to some kind of concrete structure in the ground. Not only that, but they're quite low to the ground so the wind shouldn't be as strong. There shouldn't be any need to dismantle them.
@iceI3urn
@iceI3urn 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah but strong winds can move cars with the speed reaching 220km/h. I think i can easily be swipe away.

Hmm okay. Well those panels have been there for many years so I guess they did a good job bolting them down ;) Maybe the perimeter walls also help.
