>>>>Wind and solar energy combined with battery storage are safer, cleaner and cheaper than fossil fuels. Whether such a system will actually work depends on local geography and associated weather conditions. Weather dependent solar systems are the least productive means of generating electricity in norther tier climates, such as in the Great Lakes....and are nearly useless for reliable electricity during cloudy winter conditions.

@@muskrat3291Bernie has done more for this country than most. He represents those that usually have no voice, the poor and the environment. And while Republicans get rich by screwing over the little manand exploiting and selling out our prestige natural landscape, Bernie fights for both. Who do you think the super-rich are giving money to (both legally and illegally), those who want to raise their taxes or those that want to lower them. Only the extremely rich can afford corruption, and do you think they will help politicians to get rich who want to take away more of their money to give to the poor? Nature cannot afford lobbyism or corruption, and neither can poor people. So voting for those who want to raise the taxes for those with a lot of money is always a good idea to stop corruption

From what I have seen a rooftop solar system in the US is very expensive. Here in Australia the cheapest 6.6 kW system is about $3,700 ($US 2,500) and a 13.3 kW system is about $6,700 ($US 4,300) installed. This is a result of the solar panel price having dropped about dramatically last year and is expected to fall again this year. About 1/3 of Australian households have rooftop solar and the uptake is expected to increase rapidly over the next few year.

Instead of purchasing several highly polluting aircraft carrier battle groups, we could have spent the ENTIRE Department of Offense's budget on The Solarfication of America - all of America. Not just 900,000 families. But the solar project would not use up the entire DOD budget (hidden, off the book projects included), so the rest could be used on buying back stock in America by reducing the debt. Solarfication would be just like how electricity was brought to rural America in the 1930s. Only with solar, the only cables you need are from your own solar array to your buildings that need power. This saves the cost of building an expensive network of wires across the country.

Sue I have good news for you. If you want solar energy but your housing situation does not allow for it for whatever reason (in your case the condo association) then you should look into companies like Ripple energy. Their strategy is to put the ownership of large scale energy plants for renewables into the hands of communities. I.e. the renewable power plant is partly financed by the community in exchange for an equivalent of shares in the company. That way you the consumer get to have your own renewable energy. You can be part of large scale COLLECTIVE ACTION and save on your energy bill ❤ If that sounds enticing to you: look into it.

Then because I don't have $30k sitting in the bank I have to get a loan, that means my $15k solar setup is going to cost around $45 grand. It'll still save me money in the long run, electricity is expensive here, but it's still stupid how expensive profit seeking corpos have made it.

How about a solar powered national car charging station network? If it’s setup correctly the power is free and if it’s built with our taxes then we’d charge free. That’d be a good incentive to get an electric vehicle to replace the smoker. It would drive a huge shift away from burning.
@luvnotvideos

Right now, the only thing stopping the development of a national charging network is the strain it will put on the current infrastructure. The good news is, if this solar panel program works, and a large portion of Americans have solar on their roof, it will start to offset the burden, making it easier to move forward with building the charging services we need to replace gasoline stations.

Solar panels are cheap. What makes solar power work is batteries, which are improving and lowering in cost. The main impediment to solar adoption is greedy contractors who promote grid tie systems. The permitting and expensive equipment drive the price up which is great for those who double the cost for their labor. DIY off-grid can start small paying cash and scale up without dealing with those who own your financed grid-tie systems for 25 years.

What else is there they don't mention? The truth is, Americans who are comfy with their budgets have become spoiled. You can ask poor and low income families, that can't afford air conditioners. But we know lobbyists don't care about them! I remember the 90es and even the 2000s, not much has changed in climate since then. Developing renewable energy as structural is only way to come out of the stagnation. The number of people who are willing to risk putting solar on roof top and the whole headache of removing and reinstalling when roof need repair, has peaked. You will not get any more to sign up. Climate change and rising sea levels will make properties in low lying areas and coastal areas impossible to insure. Banks will be reluctant to give a mortgage for 15 or 30 years because the property may be under water. Selling properties to average buyers will become impossible in the future as banks and mortgage companies stop making loans for these properties. Coastal areas are a high risk for insurance and extreme weather like hurricanes. People will have to self insure and take the risk of loss. Condo associations are losing their insurance and if they find a new higher cost policy they will be passing on the higher costs to association members. Flooded cars from hurricanes were filling the salvage lots. Insurance companies will raise rates and pass on the costs and risks to policy holders next year. Coastal properties will be confined to wealthy individuals that can buy properties with cash and self insure for losses from hurricanes or rising sea levels.

The money for solar is a wonderful start, but only a start. Local communities and utility companies have not yet gotten on board. They have not been following through with timely engineering and electrical approvals on permits, even when no changes have been required. In addition, local electrical utilities have required a change in the existing meter to a new solar metering system. I have always loved solar power, but I won't pretend to know how to do these men's jobs. I do know that it only took one day to install my solar panels. However, it has taken the city engineers and utility company almost a year to complete the rest of the task of hooking my panels up to the grid, and it's still not done. I'm still struggling to pay outrageous electrical bills, while my panels are just sitting wasting potential on my rooftop. It's very frustrating.

Wouldn’t money be better spent doing large commercial solar projects with battery storage and improving the grid? That would lower the cost for everyone not just homeowners. In addition there’s been a lot of fraud reported perpetrated towards less savvy homeowners.

Type four nuclear reactors are what we should be using
@j0de0Brabander
@j0de0Brabander 9 күн бұрын
How would those benefit the poor? Nuclear is way more expensive [always over budget] would take about 10 years to build AND why not do both if type 4 is as good as you suggest. There are a million of solutions but we DO have to implement them. Playing one against the other will only drown both.

Also, Bernie is wrong about crop yields. Warming plus adaptation is associated with a 13% increase in low latitude rice and high latitude wheat harvests.
@jensonee
@jensonee 10 күн бұрын
Crops Moderate warming and increased carbon dioxide can help some plants grow faster, but more severe warming, floods, and drought reduce yields. Climate change can also lower the nutritional quality of crops by diluting the protein content, vitamins, zinc, and iron. Livestock Livestock may be at risk from heat stress and reduced quality of their food supply. Fisheries Changes in water temperature can make waters more hospitable to invasive species and shift the ranges or lifecycle timing of certain fish species. Productivity is expected to decrease for about half of fisheries worldwide as a result of climate change impacts. Water Rising temperatures accelerate evapotranspiration from plants and soils, and areas of the world that are already water-constrained will increasingly experience adverse impacts on agricultural production through diminishing water supplies

The thing with solar is everybody runs out of it at the same time, so then they need a surge of electricity from some other source that has to be up and running and ready to power a city.
