The power meter doesn’t run backwards. All energy put into the grid will be charged against you unless you have the correct meter

Indeed, I warn in rhe video to inform about the formal procedures in case of becoming producers. But yes, it must be said very explicitly.

Another good candiate for solar energy is hot water, either directly with a DHW setup, or with PV powering a electric hot water system. Here in Canada/USA we have split phase 240v/120v system and hot water tanks are normally wired to 240v. BUT if you wire to 120v they will take 1/4 power, so a nominal 4.5kw heater consumes ~1.2kw... easier to generate and switch on/off with a timer. I added more panels to my system last year, and used the excess power production to heat water this summer, likely back to propane heating for Jan/Feb though...

Hi Mungewell, I agree, but got a lot of comments against it in my video kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKTYfmuje6uqg9ksi=9H7ZvHOigbS1sqYc on the thermal use of solar. Your use of split phase is very useful to choose for low power so that electric heaters can work as base load. It reminds me how they start big motors (Star/Delta connection).

Does that cut off generation automatically during a power outage? If not, it seems that's a great way to hurt or kill someone.
@nnvasen-good-energyАй бұрын
I thought I replied already here, but don't find it. Yes, this is intrinsic safety.

This type of system used to be called 'guerilla solar', which I think is an apt name. As you note you are only offsetting some of you electrical use whilst the sun is shining. You can not push too much back to grid, or be payed for it, unless you enter into an agreement/contract with your power company.
@FauxQue-yk8dtАй бұрын
You would have to have a smart meter capable of net metering. And of course an agreement with the utility. But there is no way this method would pass inspection
@nnvasen-good-energyАй бұрын
It's really a bill reducer and a help to avoid grid overload when cooling demand will rise in the heating climate. If you add a grid syncronised battery then you will have no or little electricity to get back to the grid but anyhow, also with this battery, any grid sync system is stopping in a black out, so be aware of that.

Are these available in the United States? Would it work in the US?
@FauxQue-yk8dtАй бұрын
Yes micro inverters are available in the US
@nnvasen-good-energyАй бұрын
Yes, it should be available in the US, I saw them even on Amazon (inverters and complete PV panels). For the right frequency and voltage.
@bryanclantonАй бұрын
What they do not tell You is you have to have a net-zero meter or you will get chaegrd for any power that is pushed to the grid.
@nnvasen-good-energyАй бұрын
That's true, I read that meters (may) work like an absolute value processor (mathematical operation :-) It takes just the value of the power, without considering the direction and yes, they charge it. That was in some way dealt with in the video where I say that you have to comply to rules before feeding into the grid. You can avoid that in several ways, by buying a device that avoids that, by stopping production automatically when it goes into the grid, by contacting the supplier or just consume it all (also automatically).

I thought I replied already...thank you for your kind words. Hope to bring more interesting stuff. If you have a wish don't hesitate to suggest a question.

I wish I could have understood it .....his accent and voice was too difficult for me to understand all of what was said.....pity, it was probably good information.

I'm sorry for the voice, will try to improve. I have subtitles in 7 languages, though.

NO! NEVER DO THIS! IT ENDANGERS POWER LINE EMPLOYEES.
@FauxQue-yk8dtАй бұрын
Not really. First off you would fry your equipment. All of your neighbors on the same side of the transformer would still have plenty of stuff still plugged in and you would damage your equipment trying to power all of their stuff. Next you're ignoring the proper training linemen receive. They treat everything as it's hot and the lines are grounded out just in case. There has never been a case of a dead lineman linked to backfeeding. There is one case that they are unsure of what happened and it's listed as a possibility of back feeding since there is no evidence.

FauxQue already replies with facts that I even didn't know, thank you FauxQue. Moreover, the grid-tied solar module need the external grid voltage to sync, otherwise it will not work, so safety is intrinsic.
