Solar Powered Chicken Coop Fans | Beating the Texas heat in the chicken coop

We are prepping our girls for a hot summer ahead, and are being pro-active with keeping the coop cool for the summer. One way we are helping them out is installing solar powered fans to circulate the air in the coop. Hopefully this will make them nice and comfy!

Definitely, a little shade above the run will be appreciated even if you just attach some 40% shade cloth over part of it. But they are protected by aerial as well as ground predators! Looks good!

I've been watching your videos to catch up. Heads up rhubarb leaves are toxic to humans. Growing up I learned that the hard way. Check out Three Sisters planting. Once you read about it I think you might want to try it. Love your garden. Our city water is too costly to grow one so I'll watch yours😊

The solar fan is a great idea! I need to look into that for the coop and greenhouse. My birds look so hot in their coop in the summer. They have skylights. Nice in the winter, but very hot in the summer.

Make a shade you hold with brackets and canvas for the skylights for the summer months.

Stick another fan on the other side drawing air out and it will have better circulation of air going through the coop keeping out hot air.

We figured with the giant screen door it will create a suction naturally. We will try it for now and see.

@@thedenmanhomestead No I lived in a trailer with no air conditioner so it's like a giant chicken coop. You could open every window in the trailer and you still roast to death, BUT if you stuck a fan sucking air in on the shaded side it would cool it a little if you placed a fan blowing out on the sunny side on a 90* to 100* day the house would be 75*. The constant moving of hot air out and cool air in would keep it cooler. And I was around 5 moths Prego in 1987 when temps in Mankato got up to 104* in April so I needed that cool air bad because it was massively hot that year.

I would not have cut the top of the metal wall, so you could bend it up and let it there to be a roof for the fan. Basically protecting the fan from rain.

It would have to be a major sideways rain. It's covered under a lip of the roof line

Does it work at night? Is there a battery? I would build a frame around it. It would make it look more finished and more secure.

No battery and it doesn't work at night, but when the sun sets it gets cooler inside the coop so it doesnt really need it after the sun goes down. We secured it inside pretty well :)

The fan is still going strong, it doesnt work when the sun goes down, and it slows when clouds cover the sun, but doesnt stop it completely. I think its really helping during these horribly hot days we are having.

Just a suggestion, but since heat rises, do you think one fan could be placed high up to draw the hot air out, then one fan placed lower to draw air in.
