Love the shack. If you haven't already switched to led 12v lighting . Please. Consider this . Ebay search for 36 smd. Same initial cost as you incandescent bulbs. Way less heat. And will not eat your batteries.they come in many sizes and colors . Again nice shack. 73.

Did I understand right that you take the power from 12v batteries to 1000w inverter then into 20A power supply? Wouldn't it be more efficient to just use 12v directly off the battery pack? I'm new in the hobby, thanks for the visit of the shack! ;-) VA7JML
@copefarms305010 жыл бұрын
yes it would be more efficient to just go straight 12volt. The only reason to use the inverter would be to use something that isn't 12 volt and needs the 120ac.

I also have a solar off grid .it's a cabin 400 watt solar and 400 watt air X win gen. 12V dc 700Ah total with NiFe 10 cell battery bank. I had to use 2 150amp diodes in series with a high current switch across to control volts going over 15. I have MPPT charge controller and during the day I get hash noise threw HF. MW to around 15 meter S9 at times. I have midland weather alert radio. Antone 4 band radio. 10 6 2 70Cm. have 12v tube amps but run my battery down. and CFL lights 12V RV make hash noise as well. use LED!! I got cobra 29LTD with weather Wilson 1000 antenna. when the grid goes down you are set!! just jump to a car to charge battery during long outage. I have gen power. when I want the tubes I start gen. 73s !!

You are right it will alert you and that is a 2900r but the radio has to be turned on to alert you the way I understand it and the corbra does not have to be on to alert you. Unless you know something else? maybe I am missing something? 73

Hi, and thank you for your video. I am very interested in your solar setup. I am currently moving my shack to a different position in my house and I intend going totally solar. I see you have many many amp hours of capasity in your batteries. I was wondering how many solar watts you have available? Anyway thank you very much for your videos. the amount of gasses that off gas from that battery cluster would amount to a mouse fart. In other words Not much and you don't need to worry about it. Nothing will explode nothing will kill you. The amount of off gas will dissipate in the air.

I'm glad you are trying to find facts and I can help you with that but the only way hydrogen is harmful is if it replaces the O2 in the room and you die from over inhalation much like CO2 but Hydrogen is lighter then air and is always trying to find its way out. My shop is well ventilated and is also a large air space. I think you maybe are confusing the risk associated with charging batteries which is not to be understated but you are on the side of safety which is good.

Here is a link to our Trojan MSDS label the label is the law,it states in section 8 a lead acid battery must be ventilated when charging in an enclosed area.The label is the law...If you want to call a MSDS federal label a "Myth" you might be better consulting the MSDS manual to check first

At standard temperature and pressure, hydrogen is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, nonmetallic, highly combustible diatomic gas with the molecular formula H2 and is NOT fatal unless there is a explosion from that gas building up in a area. These are typical lead acid batteries your RIGHT not AGM but a Absorbed glass mat battery DOES vent to the atmosphere. Let me know if you have any other battery questions or myths you would like me to answer. 73 brother!

Well I have watched a couple of your video's, they are way more educational than many that I have been watching of late. I only use Utube for casual education, not entertainment as many do so these videos are especially appreciated. You have pretty much convinced me to take the test, only problem is that it is only given in larger towns in this area, the nearest is some 100 miles northwest of here but my nephew (a HAM) can set it up for me, I hope. Gotta get more studying in saddly I gave away the study book that I purchased but that was over 16 years ago so it was probably out of date, maybe my nephew has one I can borrow for a few weeks and study up. I have been studying up online, only thing that hurts a bit is my math skills. I can program in basic and math is no problem but for some reason Ohm's law fails me at times. Perhaps it is getting old. 20 years ago Workers Comp sent me to college, and I managed a 4.0 GPA but back then computers were still new enough that they counted as math credits so being a computer nut I just crammed all the computer classes I could along with my paralegal studies. Again thanks a million for the videos great to watch!

Just getting my tech license,will start with 2m...Great video,check my channel out if you need solar info...By the way unless those are AGM truck batteries which they are not, those need to be put into a sealed bo and vented outside,when they charge they give off hydrogen gas that you can not smell,will make you very sick...CAN BE FATAL...Have any headaches lately ,,,,Stay safe brother

"MSDS labels are the law" myth! Material safety data sheets or msds is not a law they are a standardized form for which manufactures use to communicate potential safety risks of there products to employee's of the work place and emergency personnel so they know how to safely deal will that product. You are right they do recommend that you vent batteries but the amount of Hydrogen given off during a OUT of control charge still is not enough in this large of a area to worry about death.
@JackofallTrades38311 жыл бұрын
Go back to section 5 of your Trojan MSDS and read "Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards" then look up Hydrogen Sulfide which is a different gas thats probably what the poison center was reading to you. Stay informed bother we can help each other out here and I could help you with your solar stuff if you got questions. 73!

Actually it can be pretty cheap. I worked off of a $25 dollar Baofeng handheld connected to a homemade ground plane antenna for the last year or so. The who set up was less than $50, and I was easily and clearly keying into repeaters 30-50 miles away.

I started with an ht, now I have two mobile radios, one in my shack and one in my truck. I still use my cb, especially on road trips. I would buy the best that you can, plus save up a little more to get a little higher quality radio.
