Humans migrating from Africa 50,000 years ago rarely ever results in a % in most of these tests. It's usually historical events that occurred within the past 200-300 years that would be a small 0.05% in our DNA. If our logic was to be that evey human being that migrated out of Africa had a % of Africa in them, then every human even from different countries and ethnicities would be related lol, and that doesn't make any sense in retrospect.

@UCvSS1bvDpZSyWHTMZUI9XXA I agree. I have seen some other yt contents of ppl doing similar genetic tests with different companies. It all depends on how the company labels each gene type to certain country. I remember one of those companies didn't even assign any genes to Koreans. And the Korean person was just classified as mainly being a mix of Japanese and Chinese, no "Korean" genes. These gene tests are not to be taken seriously. Also if you send in another sample, you get a similar but different result.
@kalmtraveler4 жыл бұрын
@@rachelgamez3519 depends on the company and your recent ancestors - they do all have their own 'native population' sample data and algorithms so the results won't be 100% identical but they're not completely wrong, like a definitely-Asian person is not going to show up 50% German. Also - the more people who submit samples the more accurate results become... and chances are anything more than a few % is very likely correct (as far as you have some of that ancestry I mean - not necessarily the exact percent amount).
@a.a90214 жыл бұрын
@BenziX Almost nobody is 99% anything. And no one could possibly know the genetics of their entire hundreds of thousands of years-long lineage, even if they claimed to. Just because all the family you know was born and raised in Korea, doesn't mean all of their ancestors were.

Theres a phenomenon calling crossing over when the parental chromosomes are duplicated and split. This allows gene variation, part of your DNA which may not be a physical trait for you, might be given to your child who will show that physical trait. Maybe it's something like that?

@@ib3scope Yeah since my second language is actually Vietnamese. I used a lot of that as the words were similar and I could use it to apply similarities. But I learned the basic vocabs and structures and realized that in certain languages there are interesting similarities. That helped me a whole lot since I am also fluent in Spanish from taking it during my school years. Grammar and writing I'm still working on but verbally talking and understanding I am fluent. I would suggest speaking to Korean friends a lot because I would do that to practice. I also was learning Korean for translating so I would label certain things in my house in Korean. @@jesin0005 It's possible that this African trace could be from slaved Africans who may ended up in China or Japan during colonial age. Portuguese and Dutch traders would bring them in their journeys to East Asia. I'm not sure if some had activities in Korean peninsula at time, but some would end up working as pirates or mercenaries in China sea as well. During Qing Dynasty some African pirates became famous/notorious enough due to their loyalty. Also, there is a history of a Black samurai warrior in Japan as well. Even thou it's rare (or less known), but slave trade did reach places like China on occasion.

yongsun being only 50% korean and 25% japanese and almost 20% chinese, means her grandparents are probably 100% chinese and or japanese, or also mixed Korean and japanese. And ofc like most people, we originated from Africa but even some people doesn't have a % in them, so her having 0.05% African is still one of her ancestors over the past 300-400(?) years, based on some maths that if one of her ancestors is 100% african and 100% korean, she'd be the 11th generation from that first ancestor. So interesting!!!

yeah I have noticed some people are very sensitive about their DNA ancestry though - especially if there were political/war/racial kinds of problems in the past few hundred years. In my case I'm half north-western European, almost 25% Spanish, about 23% native American and about 2% sub-Sahara African. As an American of course this means there must have been a black slave somewhere in my ancestry. Solar didn't seem bothered by these results but I have seen some Korean people who get really offended if tests show anything other than 100% Korean, and Japanese people who really really hate even the suggestion that their DNA could possibly show anything other than Japanese.

this is purely my speculation, but if your math is right then it coincides with early modern era where slaves from sub saharan africa would've been taken to voyages from europe to east asia, and so somehow a slave would intermarry with locals and the rest is history

Maybe Solar had a distant African/mixed ancestor that travelled along the Silk Road, and that's how she got her small percentage of African. DNA tests do not reach back to the beginning of humanity, usually only the last 1000 years or so.
@juandenz20084 жыл бұрын
Not 0.5% , but 0.05% ! I dunno about DNA tests, but can anything be concluded from a figure that small ?
@Babygorl12094 жыл бұрын
@@juandenz2008 Thanks for the catch. Yes! But at figures that small it can either be statistical noise, another type of DNA that shows up as African even though it's not (because it's the closest thing to it and the company doesn't have enough actual African samples to differentiate between the two), or it can be real. So she would likely have to test more family members (like parents or grandparents, aunts, uncles) and also dig into her family history to determine the most likely scenario. If other family members also carry the small percentage then it's likely to be real and just very distant or her ancestor was mixed race. For example, though I don't show any Asian in my DNA results, my mom has small (0.1%-0.3% depending on the company) amounts of Southeast Asian DNA that she also shares with her sister and my grandma. If I had only tested my mom I might have dismissed that as noise, but since it is consistent with her family members, my mom has a few distant matches from Madagascar (where most people are mixed with African and Southeast Asian) and I know from researching that on the island my grandma is from a small amount of Malagasy slaves were brought there to work on plantations, I know that she likely had a Malagasy ancestor. If you're interested in history and just seeing how we're all connected, DNA testing is a really fun thing to do.^^

A gene less than 0.1% is a coincidence through mutation. It is written in the test result sheet. "Never mind less than 0.1%."
