Any plans to continue this series? Butane presents all manner of additional problems for only the advantage of the lower boiling point. I think you would have a better time sticking to ordinary water and steam, but use some sort of homemade ultra high throughput, low temperature differential heat pump to heat the boiler, using your awesome solar water heat source as the input.

Howdy :) I have loved watching this build and it has given me all sorts of inspiration- so much so that I am actually going to make a steam turbine for a school project coming up. I have one specific question that you touched on in your first video of this series with the soda bottle example: How do you physically set up the closed system recirculating pump? I’d imagine it’s output pressure has to be higher than the boiler but then that pressure would be added and therefore it stands to reason the output pressure of the pump is now the operating pressure of the entire system correct? I am also wondering how you would get it started, as the water pump cannot pump steam(at least I assume it can’t) and so in my own mind the boiler would pump in both directions of the closed loop and make no work… do you need a valve to allow the boiler time to pressurize and start producing useful work and let the condenser resubmit fill up some water before opening the whole system to be recirculating?
@TheDIYScienceGuy Жыл бұрын
Hey, good question! When the liquid is pumped to the boiler, it is a very small amount compared to the amount of gas that it can become. So, the pressure buildup from pumping the liquid is very small compared to the pressure buildup from heating the liquid in the boiler. The pump will be started by a switch that measures the boiler volume. This whole system is exactly the same as with a normal steam engine. Nice that you are making a turbine! Please let me know how it goes!

I like the project. I have a question. How much of your energy is used with such a complex set of mechanisms to control a valve?
@TheDIYScienceGuy3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Well the valve mechanism does not have a lot of resistance, most of the friction is between the piston and the cylinder. But I don't know yet how much that is, I will determine that when the steam engine is ready. But good question 👍

Waaw your video's ar really inspirational, you I've take great afford to get it Al really precise ! Head's of man ! , What is your minimum run pressure whit Al the Stuff attached? I've replicated this steam system Idea (cryophorous system) en it works great on warm water, (from 55ged c en up ) it's really hard to make everything vacuüm tight but it runs for me on a solar heat colector en a boiler for storige, the engine I replicated is the Tesla machanical oscillator ( free piston steam engine) this uses no valve's or Extra stuff en can be tuned from 32hz up to 60hz whit a extra spring, it don't even have a crank shaft this makes it hard to generate electricity whit it because it only have reciprocating motion en I can't get the liniaire alternator to work 😅 but the rest work's just fine even , the minimum run pressure on air is 0,2 Barr en on steam it's so low it's undetectable
