Greast video Adam, thanx 👍 One of my experiences with the same Lynx Bus Bar setup: The Lynx Shunt can and does NOT communicate with the Lynx Distributor. So if anyone uses Cerbo/VRM with this combination: You'll never get an info, if i.e. a fuse is blown. Only the LYNX BMS can talk with the Lynx Distributor ☹ I decided to return my Lynx Distributor, ordered a second Lynx PowerIn and added four internal mega fuses with some bolts and nuts. It's working perfectly and I saved some money. 😜

Thanks! Yeah I made that discovery recently. Very disappointing. I’m hoping that Victron resolves that soon. Doesn’t make any sense why they wouldn’t make it work with both.

I talked with Victron last year, hoping it's only a missing software feature. But no, we have to wait for a new hardware Lynx Shunt II or something like that. I'm disappointed too.

I would put the Lynx group on the far left hand side of the metal raceway (MR) where the MR feed the distributor section directly from the far left of the MR. You could then either punch a bunch of round opening in the end to feed the distributor. The battery section would be lower to the ground - nearer the batteries.

It's interesting that even Victron isn't appreciating how much voltage is involved these days in solar panel strings. They're still "OMG 120v AC we must have this in conduit" but "hey this 400v PV line? Let it dangle bro, otherwise you'll never experience what a 400v DC arc does to a cat when they chew on the wires".
@AdamDeLayDIY

You joke about that but I’ve already had to kick the cats out of the room multiple times because they’re rubbing up against all the wiring.

QUESTION - Could i use the lynx shunt, distributor, power in system and cerbo monitoring system - with eg4 18kPV inverters and eg4 ll v2 battery racks
@AdamDeLayDIY
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
You can use the Lynx bus bar system. I don’t know if the 18kPV can be connected to the Cerbo system. I would think probably not. You could still use the shunt data on the Cerbo, but I don’t think you could see inverter data on there.

Hello Adam, what was the problem with the EG4 inverters? Did you return them to buy Victron system?
@AdamDeLayDIY
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
I still have them. The little issues build up. The flickering lights and then the overloads after the latest firmware update are just a few on the list. The biggest thing was provably the lack of support. Couldn’t get support to respond to my tickets in a timely fashion. Last ticket I sent it was almost 3 weeks before I got a response. I’m a DIY guy through and through, and if I have to contact support, I’ve done my due diligence and exhausted my individual options. I just want timely support from a company I spent a lot of money with.

@@AdamDeLayDIY I have 4 SunGoldPower Inverters (same OEM with the EG4 ones) but now sure they will work good or not. Btw, where do you get the little hinges on top of the gutter?
@AdamDeLayDIY
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
@@cotandiet6096 I don’t think the sun gold ones had the flickering issue that the EG4s had. I’m guessing it had to do with the increased mppt voltage changes. Those are just clips on top of the gutter. They’re riveted in.
@cotandiet6096
@cotandiet6096 Жыл бұрын
@@AdamDeLayDIY Do you use the clips as hinges for cover, am I correct?
@AdamDeLayDIY
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
@@cotandiet6096 No. The clips just prevent the top of the cover from popping off. The bottom of the cover has screw points but nothing on the top. So the clips hold it in place. I honestly wish it was hinged cause that would be kinda cool, but I would want it to hinge down so it would be out of the way. I would imagine the gutters with hinges cost more.

Question: Since you're using EMT nipples between your controllers and the 8x8 wireway, have you researched the issue with magnetic inductance heating from only have one conductor in a steel nipple? I know that with steel conduit, you need to have two (min.) conductors in the conduit so that the magnetic fields cancels each other out and doesn't create magnetic inductance heating of the conductors and conduits. IDK. Just wondering. Maybe it's not applicable for DC current. ??
@AdamDeLayDIY
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
I have not. I know I've seen quite a few professional installers use conduit for the DC lines without any issues. That's kinda where I got the idea from. I know when I used them on my old 6500s, I never experienced any residual heat build up. I wonder if that's for AC only? I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks though!

Yeah, but then then battery cables have to come in through the top. I wish there was a way to have the battery cables face one way and the inverters face the other way.
@KwadwoAsamoah-Duodu
@KwadwoAsamoah-Duodu Жыл бұрын
Would you consider the battery cables go up separately through a separate vertical wire way into the horizontal wire way and then they also come up from top into the flipped busbar
@AdamDeLayDIY
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
@@KwadwoAsamoah-Duodu I had throught about that…after the fact. I had also thought about flipping everything upside down and mounting it flush with the bottom of the wire-way, but that would have required me to cut big openings in the bottom of the wire-way and I didn’t wana do that.

@AdamDeLayDIY
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks! That's what I keep telling myself. Take it slow...do it right the first time. On the plus side, the lynx system really almost makes it foolproof from the DC side. It takes saves a lot of brainpower trying to figure out how to lay out each individual wire, bus bar, fuse etc.

Watch Riley and Courtney Ambition Strikes, 60k LFP battery with 24 X 445 watt bifacial solar panels. They mount their electronic gear on a white painted chip board in a steel trailer. No chance for rats to come in and eat the wiring. So I do not see the need for steel tubing to protect the wiring.
@AdamDeLayDIY
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yeah, I've actually talked to Riley about his system. Nice guy! The EMT conduit is not a requirement. You can easily use liquid tight conduit for the AC side of things and the DC cables (as long as they're welding cables) are perfectly fine not being in conduit. I just like the clean look of it all. Plus, while I don't have rats, I have, well let me say my wife has cats, and they love to chew on things... so any extra protection is probably a good idea.
