I’ve had great experience with SolarEdge inverter. It was installed in my 6kw system in 2017 and haven’t had a single problem with it since then.

I'm gonna be moving to Tucson in a few months and will need a new roof in a few years. I'm thinking of going Solar Edge. I definitely like the DC coupled approach. I might also get an F150 lightning or Silverado EV in the next few years as well so bidirectional charging is going to be a must for any EV or Solar solution. I love the idea of DC from the roof directly charging the battery and DC from the roof directly charging the EV battery. Minimizes clipping losses, more efficient, bypasses 2 of the DC/AC AC/DC conversions, also bypasses any throughput limitations through "needless inverters". So charge speed should be the fastest possible. Also less need for mucking around with the house panel and circuit breakers. My only concern would be the distributed nature of putting optimizers on the roof in very hot AZ weather (however that's better than putting a microinverter on the roof). Also any max DC/AC power output from a single inverter (don't know if that's really an issue). I'd also love the Solar edge batter to have better specs like the Powerwall 3

I honestly think with more equipment benefitting from DC-DC such as EV chargers and batteries being required as net metering gets worse and worse, we'll see the microinverter approach go away

If you understood what was really going on with solar power you wouldn't all be blabbering about all this tech nonsense. And at the same time, saying absolutely NOTHING that really matters. 5 million homes now, after 20 years use solar power- how many of them have EVER had to think about ANY of these technogeek faux "issues"??? Meanwhile you know who does??? The 95% that have NOT taken action and guess why geniuses???!

@@marcppparis - What I do not like is that Enphase is putting their microinverters in nearly everything they sell including their batteries which makes them more profit and increases the price of their products.

The optimizers seem to hold up very well on the roof. As far as AC power is concerned, you can stack up to 3 inverters on 1 backup interface. The newest Home Hub models can all output 11.4kW in backup mode. That is a huge game changer if your utility requires you to have a smaller inverter.

Great video with one exception. The "generator integration" is a lie. Solaredge has been saying this for years but there's still NO direct integration between generator and home hub.

I wanted to put a battery onto my solar edge solar system but I wanted to be able to couple up a generator as we can get long grid downs here. My installer said the hardware was available but the software was not yet available. Any comments?

Good question. Both SolarEdge and Enphase have backed off marketing their generator re-charge option recently. I think some of the early installations had challenges and they are still working out the bugs.

I love the power production part just hate giving 30 percent of it to FPL every year because backup battery is still not available.

Be very careful with the bi-directional claims. "Ford, GM, Tesla, Nissan, Rivian, Lucid, and many others." While this is technically true, it does not follow that any of them will be compatible with the SolarEdge system. For example, some Rivians (R1) support DC bi-directional charging and some (R2) support AC bi-directional charging. Ford currently requires their own bi-directional charger and does not support any other. Same with GM. Other makes may also require their own (especially Tesla). There is a standard being worked on but there is no assurance that older models can be updated to meet the standard. (For reference, I am a 2022 Lightning owner.)

Tesla Cybertruck does (who cares, I'd never buy that turd lol). I think Tesla is torn on Bidirectional since it will cut into their battery business, but I don't think they'll have a choice

Joe, what are the most current stats you've seen on that inverter reliability? Even as of last year, there seemed to have been an unacceptably high number of failures with too much lead time to get them replaced. Thought you would have the stats and perhaps some corporate insight into this matter. Thanks for the great and continuing education Joe.

@@randallcotner2155 it's a simple question - who supplies your electricity now? For the last several years? Do you own your current home? What I am saying about these ridiculous videos and this blabbering tech channel is that none of this has ANYTHING to do with what is going on with Solar Power for ANYONE that owns a home. This nonsense is part of the reason why people suffer- "stupid solar" talk is the hallmark of the "industry" and a bunch of would be "solar" Hank Hill's sitting around the house with the "House Hood" open, gibbering about what they think they see inside there and advising about which Carburetor they should use..... Inverters have long since gone to Enphase- can't think WHY on earth you'd want to use any other or use these silly knock offs. ANd there is simply no reason to offer anything else. Tesla battery string inverter - p[andering to inetallers and the weak sauce sales skills of the "solar industry" to try and make a cheap alternative - and get their volume up- knowing that people will help prop them up- because they can't sell or explain solar power properly. The main goal was to get their battery chemistry up to par- and to put out low warranty, lower grade tech, as cheap as possible - because they never understood the product either! Their Solar City cousins were the main architects of the race to the bottom - and their sales force and managers and others took those habits and spread them wide and far across the nation - wanna buy some solar panels? I'm cheaper than the other solar guy and I'll give you a toaster? it will save you money...

You still have high-voltage DC on the roof! That is not worth the risks. The 10% conversion savings is a red herring. Most of the PV will provide for the homes energy demands. The balance goes to the battery.. You only save a few percentage points on energy sold back to the grid and what is used in the evening during higher rates. The balance of the time you will draw from the grid at the lowest rates. In the real world you are arguing for high voltage on the roof to justify a few points of efficiency on AC to DC conversions. This is nuts. Interestingly your video is sponsored by an insurance provider. I challenge you to share with us the insurance cost for an optimizer string DC coupled storage system vs a microinverter AC coupled storage system.

Solar edge products are absolute trash! I worked in solar for years solar edge products were often broken directly out of the box long spans of time to get replacement only to have the replacements fail directly out of the box! Solar edge put solar companies out of business because of the inferior products i would definitely avoid all things solar edge.
