Literally this song and the rest of the Sonic '06 soundtrack is the biggest reason why I can't call this game a "bad game". Flawed, buggy, glitchy, weird, yes. But there was potential and power within everything that didn't get to be fully utilized because of time constraints. This song alone represents that.

look, we can all dunk on the gameplay and story of 06, but you have to admit that the soundtrack is *legendary*

Tbh it really isn't. I'd say there's only like 5 tracks in this game that are really good outside of the vocal tracks and remixes of the vocal tracks (As in all the His World remixes including Solaris here). For a Sonic game that's surprisingly little.

Because I would argue for themes all of the level themes do a great job of setting the tone. But just as tracks in general besides the ones you said aquatic base, tropical jungle, and kingdom valley are all incredible tracks that are all incredibly rich and full with different instruments and awesome melodies and all are very very musically distinctive from other levels in the same genre. That being jungle, underground (or I guess underwater) base, and ruins
