Never heat the edge you’re going to apply the solder to, unless it’s to temporarily raise the temperature of the surrounding area before you begin the actual heating for the soldering. Always heat where the solder is going to get drawn into. You will most likely over heat the flux and not get a thorough soldered joint. Just trying to be helpful, not rude.

Solder first. Then tape/dope depending on application. And solder won’t full draw into the fitting especially with a cast iron flange

I’m pretty sure people do things on these videos so people argue or feel the need to say “hey your supposed to solder then tighten an adapter”. YT doesn’t know what the comments say just that people are commenting and it shows the video more.

when you solder an adapter that's already screwed into something, you can't fully heat up the adapter to pull in the solder with a capillary action. You are effectively capping the joint

I was taught a brass adaptor on a boiler flange. Copper doesn't like iron. Random pinholes in a copper system and corrosion can be a nightmare.

Drill some long screws in 2x4, pre sweat your adapters or brass for dielectric unions. Ez peasy, no soldering next to threaded connection without even a wet rag necessary. And gottam you buried every thread lol

Heat the back of the fitting so solder is sucked in, saw a ridge where solder piled. Solder then fit, you can potentially ruin the thread seal with heat.

I wish I had them skills. I am in a bunch of that one and a half inch copper drain pipe. Total nightmare there's no p-trap there's a special thing with what looks like a three-quarter inch anvil to a impact gun on the top of it for a pipe wrench to go on and I think that is to open up the pipe somehow I don't understand it at all lizards back from the 60s or earlier I've never seen anything like it. No p-trap just that is the closest thing to a p-trap that I could see and this is six or seven feet away in the sub-area. Where I first cut that pipe it was packed full of shit disgusting. His bill just went up $60 for that

@@bradhaenitsch1145 .... yes, but it's been proven for over 100 years that "dead" boiler water doesn't have this issue with steel, cast iron, brass, or copper. They have also been using copper hot water coils in boilers during the same time frame for domestic hot water without much trouble. That tells me they are reasonably compatible in certain situations.
