He was the kid who would buy the stereo/laptop/console game/etc from folks who had graduated, knowing he wouldn't be able to take it to his first duty station. He had so much shit in our barracks room! Lol He literally filled up his phone memory (this was in 06) by taking selfies in front of the mirror, and they he couldn't understand why I wouldn't lend him my phone, so he could take a selfie with it and send it to some rando girl. And finally, speaking of rando girls, he got some shipmate pregnant and literally told her on the phone (I was in the room during this conversation), "Nah, it ain't mine. I don't know why you're telling me this. I'm not going to help you at all.". That's the kind of POS who would fall asleep on watch and get a bunch of sailors or Marines killed. I'm in the Navy, and where I'm stationed -- at Fort Gordon -- there's a holding division for junior Sailors that are in-processing, as well as Sailors who are out-processing. However, the out-processing ones tend to be of a particular type that are almost always full of bitter sh-t about why they're being involuntarily separated. I have spoken with my chain-of-Command about the suggestion that these two groups of Sailors not co-mingle, because in-coming Sailors, fresh out of A-School, are hearing an incomplete and distorted narrative of why these other individuals are being separated... and worse, because of the rank-difference, the junior Sailors tend to look up to these negative influences. My chain-of-Command said that the reason they continue to do this is because there is still experience and mentorship to be offered by these slightly more senior Sailors. I see the merit of that viewpoint, but it comes at a cost... and frankly, it's at a cost that outweighs the benefit, in my opinion. But what do I know?

Drill Sargent's really do have damn good memories. I failed to graduate BCT the first time because I could not get the bare minimum pushups. Went back home to finish my high school, waited to get orders to go back to BCT. Somewhere along the line the information of me needing a APFT was lost, so I was given orders to restart BCT. I showed up with everything I left with and drill sergeants saw a recruit with two green duffle bags and no personal bag. everything was confusing but the paperwork doesn't like and I had to repeat the same story to a lot of Drill Sergeants. Get to my new BCT company, still stand out like a sore thumb only to realize that I'm behind my old BCT company building. Three weeks pass with me training like everyone else, (minus drill sergeants telling me to let the other recruits answer questions and I was to help with the class) my platoon is getting smoked. I hear another DS yell, "is that Private (butchered name)?". Go to parade rest, and sound off with ," yes DS." Conversation goes on for 5 min before I was told, "as you were" my old DS started talking to my senior drill sergeant. Red phase APFT comes and goes (I passed, barely), and then my company gets our weapons. Day 1 of group and zero, I zero my weapon to find out that I'm going to AIT with the next to graduate BCT Companies.

Anyway, a couple of our guys decided to go AWOL and wound up in the hands of Marine MP's. When asked if the MP's wanted to return them, our Commander said to keep them for a couple of weeks.
