When i served in the British Army my dad had a heart attack they flew me home 2000 miles with in 24 hours.

Is that quick? How long would it usually take, (documents to be filled, time to prepare to leave) if you wanted to home for a non-emergency, just for reference?

My cousin is in the navy and was serving on HMS Duncan, half way between Cyprus and the Suez Canal his wife went in to labour and they helo’d him off to go back to Akrotiri and jetted home. He missed the birth but was there for the first few hours and all of this was done in under 24 hours, remarkable.

I hope your dad is doing good. I lost my dad over 25 yrs. ago to cancer he was ex-military and I am in my 50's and miss him everyday. I am also ex-military and happy that I served my country and I am the oldest of five kids my mom&dad had. We lost our mom almost two yrs.ago so that makes me the head of our family now.

Please know how *lucky* you are mate. Even during a difficult time like this. My dad didnt hug me even once in his whole life. He didnt understand emotion what so ever and was a psychological abuser. I had parents sure, but they were evil. Seeing one single genuine hug like that makes me feel empty. I wish I could have experienced that, parents, family. Love. Even though it's tough seeing him Ill, please know that every last hug and smile isn't a given. Plenty of people dont even get one single hug or kind word from their parents at all. Even when it hurts, the fact the love is there is so precious....
