He was assassinated by a persian. The persian was a servant that complained to Umar (ra) about being mistreated by his master. Umar went to talk to his master and tell him to stop overworking his servant. But before the servant found out about Umar visiting his master, he had already devised a plan to kill Umar (Ra). The servant went into the mosque during a prayer and killed Umar (ra). He then stabbed other people who were praying and eventually stabbed himself, killing himself. I wonder how bad of a punishment Allah (swt) will give him. But that is up to Him, not me.

My brother the life they lived was not easy. The Muslims at the time had such a great trial that an average Muslim today could ever bear to live. I reverted to Islam March 29th this year, during Ramadan. I was in the mosque for iftar and a brother said "Your muslim name from now on is Omar." I asked him: "Why Omar?" He said: "Trust me, he's a very good man mashallah" So I went around and told some people half-jokingly that I am Omar now and each and every one of them said "ohh mashallah that's a good name!" When the tension and uproar intensified, the Prophet said, "Get away from me!" Therefore, Ibn 'Abbas used to say, "It was a miserable, absolutely miserable, occurrence that the conflict of opinion and noise made by the people came in the way of the Prophet's writing a will and, because of it, the Prophet could not leave behind what he wanted to put on paper.

I heard the names of them (R.A) before but never learn their lives and struggles and when our teacher taught us about all 4 of the Khulafa. If it is true that Umar ra murdered Fatimah ra then I have lost all respect for Ali ra because what kind of man would serve under a man who murdered his wife and unborn child. The Prophet said, "Now let me write something for you whereby you shall not go astray after me." 'Umar said, "The Prophet is overcome by illness; you have the Qur'an, the Book of Allah, which is sufficient for us." 'Umar's statement caused a furor among those present. Some were saying that the Prophet's command should be obeyed so that he might write whatever he desired to write for their guidance. Others sided with'Umar. When the tension and uproar intensified, the Prophet said, "Get away from me!" Therefore, Ibn 'Abbas used to say, "It was a miserable, absolutely miserable, occurrence that the conflict of opinion and noise made by the people came in the way of the Prophet's writing a will and, because of it, the Prophet could not leave behind what he wanted to put on paper.
