Not only the first 4-6-0 in britain, but the ONLY preserved Highland loco.

There were actually plans for saving another Highland locomotive, the last surviving Highland Railway Small Ben Class The Last surviving engine 54398 Ben Alder was withdrawn from service in 1953 and was putted into storage, after many years in storage at different locations no preservation attempt was succesful and the engine was sadly cut up in 1967 after 14 years in storage Although the Scottish Railway Preservation Society has raised up the idea of building a new Ben Class

Worth checking out the NSW Railways P class (later C32 class), of 1892 which apparently was a significant influence on the design on this class.

Such a beautiful locomotive! I hope someday she’s given another chance and is restored!

Oh lovely! I've been waiting to see this grand old engine on here, since it's not only the only Highland Ry. 'Jones/Big Goods' around, but it's also the only Highland loco in preservation. And the livery alone is gorgeous.
@joelightrailway23625 жыл бұрын
Alright the Jones Goods is one of my favourite Scottish locomotives ever as I personally like the livery on this class. I'm glad she was save for preservation as it would be a real shame if the first 4-6-0 to be built in the UK would've been scrapped.

You should make a video about Failed Preservation attempts for example, the NBR C11 cut up during WW2 just after being restored and the only surviving Highland Railway Ben Class that was stored by many years and was eventually cut up

Brilliant video yet again Chris! This is one of those engines that needs to return to steam! Such an important Loco and only up close have I realised how intricate the livery is! Nice one mate!

I suspect the 4-6-0 wheel arrangement would have happened in the UK anyway, but it may well be the case that following their experiments with the Saints as 4-6-0s and 4-4--2s, it makes me suspect the GWR saints would have become the first 4-6-0s

Every time I see her there I can't help thinking what a brute of a loco she is compared to others from the era and in comparison to the other locos in the museum (especially the rather dainty Caley single next to her).

One of my childhood favourite engines. I spent many hours in the Old transport museum in Glasgow. Did you video Gen Douglas as well? The new museum is a joke, you can't see half the exhibits, they are stacked in huge shelves!

Can you do a SOLE Slip on either the LNER N2 or N7 0-6-2 Tanks?
@wshr10325 жыл бұрын
This is a great Sole Slip and HR 103 is my favorite engine of all time but I do think it could’ve benefited from a bit longer of a runtime and more of the preservation history of the engine, also I think all episodes of Sole Slips could benefit from that
@patrickwebb73115 жыл бұрын
Wow. I had no idea how important 103 was to history.
