lol, fair enough. I wish I could get the google ads out, too, but the algorithm has no incentive to share my work if I do and no one sees them if I do.
@SeraphimKnight3 жыл бұрын
I think the most insulting thing about google ads is that they used to pay a fairly decent wage to the youtubers but nowadays google has decided that the people that create the content for the platform don't deserve a living wage for the work that they make... If it was still like the old days I'm not sure people would even take on shady sponsorship deals. Unless it's for a genuinely good product it's lose-lose for everyone.
@agoodballet2 жыл бұрын
I pay for the KZbin subscription so that I don’t have to see the BS adds. I can’t stand it when people make the adds part of their video but if it gets them paid so be it. I skip that part anyway. I don’t mind when it’s their product they’re selling but I don’t want to hear about some dumb cell phone game or shaving products when I’m watching people build cars, guitars etc.

Very nice one Tim. I mentioned in your last vid I had finished my third bass. I sourced all of the wood, made router templates, neck, and sourced all of the parts. It all started with the bass kit I got from you a year ago. I'm almost ready to try to make my own necks. I think the kit with the neck is the perfect place to start for someone who is up for the challenge of that level of wood working.

since your getting in to making pickups, i dont know if you learned this already or not but its a good idea to always use the stop end of the coil as your ground connection and the start end of the coil as your output. doing so allows the outer most turns of wire to act as noise shielding for the coil because they would be closest to ground. you'll get better noise control this way

yes. that's the way I've been doing it. Still a lot to learn, too.

I make my own tools too, so also liking the sneakie hand shadowing on the center tool (Hope it works on metric ) :) I realy like my lasers and love to use them with my CNC, would you look at getting a metal 3D printer if you had the work for it? Roy
@timsway3 жыл бұрын
I will make a video about pickups fairly soon. I always planned on making my own winder from an old sewing machine but this one was only $200 on ebay with a counter and everything already, so it's an affordable way to get in the game. I don't know much about 3d metal printers. I think if I were to make investments in more large, hi tech tools, I'd be interested in a laser that can cut metal. While additive manufacturing makes more sense than reductive, in my case reductive is an easier way to use "trash" and reclaimed materials.

@@MilesMcNallyLuthierie ye, that was always the thing holding me back. I didnt want to spend 50p$ on a winder and the retrofit seemed like a lot of work, sourcing a counter. Etc. Now that I've seen this, I feel like I could make my own but it is totally worth $200 to not have to.

Just for aesthetic reasons I don't like maple fretboards. I'd love to have some of this kits with rosewood or richlite
@timsway3 жыл бұрын
I went with maple as I was having the necks made in a factory and maple is the most sustainable of the common guitar woods around the world. Rosewood is not environmentally sound, so that's a no for me. Richlite however is pretty cool and better ecologically (and ethically) speaking but expensive and more prone to break cnc router bits. In the future, I think I'll make the necks here, so I would use wood that grows near me, which would probably be maple again, but I might look for something else for the fingerboards. I agree maple is a little "boring" looking.

That paddle neck looks wonderful ! I have almost no true options its all parts or warmouth if I want a neck that does not warp and can be dialed in properly tuned exact tension as well as angle and intonation all of this magic others might not understand. Can one perhaps buy a maple paddle directly from you? Or should I just continue to curse at the high dollar fish neck company that has banned me knuckle down and just buy Japanese all parts necks as per usual? I have not had much luck aside from Japan! Your shop is amazing!
@timsway3 жыл бұрын
I did not make this paddle neck, I bought it from an overseas factory and agree they are not all that great, but I've also found the terribly expensive ones are not much better than the less expensive ones. I get asked to make just necks a lot and have considered it, but with my particular tooling and process they are too expensive. I will be looking in to ways of doing it in the future for my kits and possibly individual retail.
