I never thought that there would be a video of it. Good song, though his video performances are rare, regardless of being live or from studio.

All I can say is both of them are super talented and are cut of the same cloth. Rick peaked in 1981 with Street Songs and appeared to have enjoyed his spoils so much so that Prince who was up and coming simply out worked my man Rick.

I never thought of their similarities in detail but I think you're absolutely right. I've read that RIck James singlehandedly saved Motown from creative stagnation and a possible bankruptcy in the late 70s; his sound was utterly unique and invigorating for Motown's corporate image. Sadly, he paid a huge price for personal problems early in his career; after his incarceration he was anathema. I wish he'd been able to get his presence re-established online as Prince was savvy enough to do. Creatively, I believe these two artists stand toe to toe. RJ just got outdone by P's bigger body of work and more disciplined habits. Both left this earth far too soon. Our loss.

It has since come out that Politics at Motown prevented him from being the Massive Crossover Star, that he should have been. One day I was walking through the yard of my white neighbor growing up in Connecticut , he saw me and we were talking about Music and he said man I love that Rick James he is amazing. I was like WHAT how do U even know about that!!!! This is a Rock n Roll Heavy Metal type of dude..He didn't listen to Black Radio Music or Radio.Music was so segregated in the ''80's you had to have a conscious l plan for a Black Artist to be mainstream.People need to remember and learn that if you were around then that Rick's Records were only really on BlackUrban Radio.( We got our major radio stations in that part of Connecticut fron NYC). My point is if someone like Jimmy (my white neighbor) knew Rick's talent and impact. Imagine if he had the full backing of Motown to cross over and become the cultural icon that his songwriting and Production deserved. Yes he was and is respected and revered, and the Drugs and the Life he lead and his mistreatment of women, may have played a part and be a catalyst as to why he's career wasn't as big abs it s would have been , and his lifestyle caught up with him. But, when we talk about Black Artistic Excellence, during the '80's he is often misunderstood and overlooked . Yea Michael and Prince deserve to be on the Mt. Rushmore of all time of Black Artists. But, so does Rick. If what has since come out and is coming out about Motown politics and drama and what was going on about the company's survival and who it chose to use its crossover connection behind are true it makes sense . Not to let Rick off the hook, he had demons. Ones that cost him? Of course it did. Whether it was Eddie Murphy, The Mary Jane Girls, The Stone City Band, Val Young, Process and the Doo Rags, Bobby Millitello, The Mynah Byrds, The Great Whit Cane, or writing for David Ruffin and most Notably Himself, . His is one of the GOATS, that deserved back then more mainstream respect. He deserves to be more known for more than, the Dave Chapelle skits and an MC Hammer sample!

Supposedly written about Linda Blair. Rick had gotten word that she thought the soul and funk master was hot. When word got back to him about Blairs response. The two dated but never seemed to gel as a couple. Soon after the two parted ways. Supposedly, she had gotten pregnant unexpectedly. She didn't want children and had the pregnancy terminated shortly afterwards. This, ultimately proved to be the final act and the two split right after that. That Linda Blair is " coldblooded".
