I think you have to remember that this was suppose to be originally ans island set only. The fact we will get a bonus to put together the barracuda is a great bonus. There is nothing that sucks to take a few extra minutes for the bonus addition and hey...out the extra pieces in a ziplock and sails in between the pages of the instruction and out it in the box.

I highly disagree with your cons. Especially on the usefulness of the island after the ship is built. I think it encourages the creativity of the builder to design their own cool looking islands based on the parts and greenery they have to make it much more appealing whether for display or to play. It’s so genius that they are allowing us to take this already awesome set, and go the extra mile to allow us to reassemble the crashed ship. I feel you are being a little too closed-minded about this set, but also I have yet to build it. I look forward to getting this set when it comes out

10:27 the"rock tiki- dude" is a reference to an islander mini figure that appeared in one of the pirate theme sets (set 6262), the rock formation also appears in the set. Really cool Easter egg.

lol on top of that.... IT IS LEGO! Just stick them somewhere around the place and I am sure they will be of no intrusion or ugly to look at. Also, when he got the "extra" pieces of vegetation off the ship, he could have put them creatively back on the "bare" island and dress it up more. I know they could have done something cooler with that part of the set, but, again... IT IS LEGO! Be creative!

why are you complaining...just leave it in the island format and people who like the ship more they are just gonna take the ship and leave the island away....so you have the choice here no one is gonna change it from island to ship every week so the negative of difficult change progress isnt there for me....

So having extra sails inside the box is a con? One of the biggest problems with buying an original 1989 Black Seas Barracuda is finding one with the sails in good condition since these are made of fabric. They include extras to kinda counter that problem and have many spare sails sitting in safe places (not on display) so that you could sell this set in the future with the sails in good condition. Don't like it? just F-ing throw that away. I can't believe that you seriously consider this as a con.

The reviewer made a mistake in the wording because from min 19.43 he says "First off... I don't like that....you know... you get all these extra sails and, again, it is great that we get these extra sails and we can fully put together a real pirate ship". What he says is right but confusing because they're not "extra sails" as in spare ones, but extra as in: every mast has got two sails rolled up, but he didn't put up the rest of the sails he has got. If you check the video carefully, the front part has got no sails rolled up (although the ship needs 2 sails on that mast, which are in his "spare"), and the back of the ship also misses one other sail, which is, again, in his "spare". That's why the confusion... Unfortunately there are no spare sails.

Everything about this set drags me back to being 10 yrs old and opening the baracuda on Xmas day. Getting my brother to help me build the ship as it was too difficult for me. This revisit was strangely familiar but also a new build. Holding some parts like the shark for the first time in 28 years, but with new aspects of creating an inn from the hull. Only thing which was missing for me was the Monkey and actually the slight change to the ships appearance. Loved every aspect of it.

You do know what LEGO wants with this, right? You buy TWO of them. One to display as a ship, one to display the ship. That being said, the barren island is perfectly fine. If you think it's empty, use the left over pieces and use your imagination. It's not like you can't rebuild the island that's left to something else...

I feel you’re expecting way too much from LEGO on this one... if you could just pick up the ship pieces and snap them together, they wouldn’t be as well integrated when they’re on the island. And how could you expect the island to stand on its own without the ship? You can’t have your cake and eat it to. Besides, you’re not going to take it apart every other day. Johnathan Lehrbass actually... The piece looks familiar to the one used on the original Barracuda but the original one was wider on the bottom and decreases in size and it went up the mast of the ship. This piece is the same size and parallel all the way up the mast.

I'm completely guessing mind you, perhaps the reason they didn't connect it all is that it'd need a technique frame to secure it properly so that'd make it difficult to take apart and make/reassemble the ship. Plus price would increase. Also if it's just pins and clips, the danger of many, many people attempting to lift and move it will present a danger of coming apart and toppling. Keeping it as two sections, will force you to carry it, move it one section at a time. Safer I believe this way.

I don’t think people will want to keep changing the model back and forth IMHO. It will mainly be built as the crashed version as this is how it is mainly portrayed. A must have model that will be added to my collection.

M:Tronaut exactly I'll trade since the imperial flagship from 2010 is the most realistic looking pirate set ever produced. It doesn't have goofy colored sails either, I always hated that about the originals..considering the imperial flagship costs about 600 bucks I'll trade for it in a heartbeat

I mean if u look at how real sail ships from the 17th and 18th century are shaped u really have to admit that the imperial flagship compared to the ideas pirate ship is a total mess.

I SORELY wanted the barracuda when I was a kid, but I never got it. Lego was expensive, and we were poor. The best I could ever do was a Renegade Runner. This set will not so much allow me to relive nostalgia, but rather to experience that which I never had the luxury of knowing the first time around.

I already know how I can solve those problems. First, I would place the ship parts into their respective number bag and the sails can be placed in a zip lock bag and can be stored flat in the instruction book while closed. Then when I done enjoying looking at the ship and island as well as working the features, I then collapse it down in reverse manner by referring to the instructions by using their respective number bags leaving much of big pieces together while storing the small loose pieces in their bags too. Then I just place it back into the box with the base plate with much it together along the bags and the instruction book with the sails in it. Since it is in the box for storage everything can be preserved and I whenever I need it again, I just slide the parts out and reassemble it just minutes while referring to the instructions as my guide. As you know, I do this all time with my Lego modulars and my Christmas sets every year.

It almost makes me sad when I see people who have no idea what they could do when they have an empty island that doesn't look like much as it is and a bag of spare pieces. Not only that but they see it as a huge drawback to end up in such a situation. Their LEGO hobby seems to be decisively different from my LEGO hobby.

I think that it's good that it can change into a regular pirate ship. If you dont want to change it into the ship, then dont. It just doesn't seem like a valid complaint. Of course the island is barren, because there was previously a pirate ship on it, and if you are building the ship you dont care as much about the island.

Some people may just want the complete ship and set the island aside or behind it and it's great that people won't have to "modify" the set to have the ship. Lego officially made that possible, they did amazing.

I love classic pirates, to me my Skull’s Eye Schooner is one of the three jewels of my collection. I might have to get this one just to rebuild the original. And then after saving all the monies, buy a 1989 set to see how close it is. Of course the ship base pieces are not the same. I prefer the original 1989 style that connected with 2x4s. I wonder why changed it.

I know it's awesome, but I still have two things to question. 1.8 figures only 3 beds? 2.when ship combined, how to go downstairs from the deck? 3.I think this set can make more details and more larger, 2545pcs, less than tree house. really disappointed.

Lol the only problem with the set I have is to amen the pirate ship a tiny bit longer, and maybe not having to dissemble it just to look inside, be nice of there was flaps. But that’s just no picking and I love it how it is. The whole island thing is amazing, I respect your criticism but disagree
