This is an introduction to WELDMENTS in SOLIDWORKS for intermediate users. In this tutorial, I will break down the weldments in SolidWorks in different base categories and emphasize 3D sketches which are the fundamental skill you need for working with Weldments in SOLIDWORKS.
So the majority of the focus in this video is on 3D sketches. Once you grasp a good understanding of this matter, you will have a much smoother transition and an easier experience in Weldments.
Weldments in SOLIDWORKS has its own set of tools that offer you the features you need to create complex and realistic structures really fast and easy. Moreover, you can create a cut list that lists all the structural components you need if you were to create your model in real life or at least create a reliable BOM of your model.

So this is pergola made out of steel/metal beams instead of a wood? And also what is the differnce between pergols at the beginning of the video and the final one? You somehow made it sound that pergola made out of separate elements was not good. But how would you build it if you did not have separate elements tha tyou need to order?

Q1: Features > Save Bodies (Creating Assemblies from Multibody Parts or Cut Lists) Q2.1: "solidworks create weldment profile" (Weldments - Creating a Custom Profile*) * 4. In the FeatureManager design tree, select Sketch1. important step :) Q2.2: "solidworks save to library"

I always used assemblies when working with profiles. But weldments seem more effective.

So this method creates a single part file with weldment cutlist ! Sorry but it may not work in real life because sometimes from production point of view each rafter or purlin and plates need individual part nos etc

Thanks but this didnt really help. Your thumbnail looks like a complete and modified pergola and the video just ends incomplete. Also did you realize that your roof is unequal on the sides. Also I have never seen a pergola made from I beams why didnt you use timber?
