It's good to have a peaceful walk where you have the countryside to yourself. I've been through Strines many times, but not walked in the area you showed, so that's something to bear in mind for the future. Thanks.

Hi Michael, this was a very peaceful walk for the most part. The area around Strines is lovely as you would have seen here, worth a visit and perhaps a less frequented area by other visitors 👍

Dear Patrick I am a big fan of all your vlogs. I have a love affair with the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean, so that is how I first found your vlogs. I really appreciate the hard work you put into each vlog, especially the history and facts you include. You have a lovely, calm voice and so it is really soothing to watch one of your vlogs after a hard day. I live in the South West but will have to head to the beautiful peak district someday to do some of the walks there. Thank you kindly for showcasing this beautiful land we live in.

Thank you so much for all your kind words Rebecca and for taking the time to watch. I enjoy putting the work into my films, and it's great to know the results are liked by you and others too. As you'll have probably gathered by now, I also love the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean and miss being able to get down there as much as I'd like now, but the Peak District is wonderful too. I hope you manage to visit at some point 👍

Funnily enough Patrick, when I hear or see the name Strines, I automatically think of Strines railway station on the New Mills to Manchester Piccadilly line. Anyhow, this Strines area near Sheffield has some lovely scenery, with the reservoirs and hills forming the scene.It was most tragic, about the dam collapse all those years ago, and so many people losing their lives. The Boots Folly looks so impressive on the hillside there. I bet it must have been great when the floors were still in it, and the view from the top, imagine that. The Strines Inn, where you had your glass of ale, looks impressive both outside and inside. Quite a fairly old building and the peacocks looking good too. A most enjoyable film Patrick, and so, many thanks.
@solitaryrambler Жыл бұрын
Yes I've heard of the other Strines near New Mills. It's lovely around here though. Very sad history of the dam of course. Not much to see inside the folly, but again it probably looked a lot better with the floors. it was a good pint to end the walk! Thanks Ffranc for watching and commenting 👍

What outstanding countryside we have here. Who needs to go overseas? That inn including the pint looked lovely too. My sisters friend has a peacock. What magnificent looking birds they are too. It's always nice to see one. Although it was a scenic salk, what a tragedy occurred there and such a loss of life. I'd never heard of that before today either. you wouldn't think that the reservoir held that amount of water by looking at it. I will check out a tramp in the hills but nothing beats your channel. It's awfully kind of you to give other channels a passing nod though. Cheers Patrick, always a delight 😁

I've often said that myself Kelly, why go abroad when we've got stunning country here. The Strines Inn has always been a favourite of mine as it's indeed lovely with a great location. The pint I had was good from what I recall too. The peacocks have been there for as long as I've visited the pub over the years. Sad history indeed about Dale Dyke, but interesting too of course. Thank you for your kind words as always. Steven's channel is certainly worth looking at too as he always makes me laugh whenever I watch one of his videos. Thanks Kelly and all the best 👍

Great looking valley to start the walk Patrick. I instantly liked the area and settled down to a hill walkers visual feast. Ha ha, a church. I thought it was the high alter to water. Not wrong really. But what a tragedy. That architect got his calculations wrong clearly. I wonder what Sheffield did to him. Well, a lovely pub to end. Now that's the kind of old school pub I would love to see back in our cities. No widescreen TV. Enjoyed that. All the best as always. Mark
@solitaryrambler Жыл бұрын
This is indeed a fab valley Mark, one of the quieter one in the Peak District really. Haha I thought that hut looked a bit church-like, high alter to water is good. Yeah the dam history is a real tragedy. I read that one of the designers saw a crack in the dam, but convinced himself it wasn't an issue. However, he opened up the valves in the embankment to allow more water through, which worsened the crack thus creating the disaster. The Strines Inn is wonderful indeed, no TV, just good beer, food and lovely surroundings. Thanks for watching Mark. Hope your week is going well for you 👍

@@solitaryrambler It looked lovely Patrick. For sure that building was church like - purposeful maybe. Ah, how mad is that ignoring the damage. That's denial for you. Hey, good to hear of the pub - my kind of space. A pleasure as always.

So many walking options in the Peak District. Strings familiar to us from past walks. Whatever happened to that sign split in two (Dale Road near Thompson house). .What a history for the Dam. What a good impersonation you did of Steven (Tramp in the Hills)! I too have subscribed to his channel. A strumming guitar mingling with different instrumentals, especially the strings, made a pleasant mix.
