Yet another excellent, fair and balanced review. I have not seen Solo yet, (I'm seeing it on Saturday) but by the sounds of it, you thought more or less the same of Solo as I did The Last Jedi. I wasn't one of the haters of The Last Jedi, in fact I liked it... I just didnt LOVE it, like I did A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Force Awakens or especially Rogue One. Let's hope that I feel about Solo as you did about Last Jedi, so that we can restore balance to the force ;). I do agree about not wanting to be bombarded with new films though, I think at the very most, one a year is enough, possibly even only one every eighteen months or two years (somehow there is something that feels a little wrong about this one not coming at Christmas now). Even as an avid Star Wars fan, there was a little part of me that was disapointed to hear that they have already started planning 3 films after Rian Johson's upcoming trilogy. My fear is that by the time we come to these, we may need a break of a few years before them. I worry that fans who did not like The Last Jedi will not give Rian a chance with his next three films, and so will dislike them just because of him being involved. With the knock-on effect that they will then choose to not see the following three films, or worse start turning against the franchise.

I liked the movie overall. It had a lot of really good, fun scenes but had a quite a few dull ones too. I don't think it flowed very well from scene-to-scene either. I was waiting for a stand out moment that never really materialised. There was the one big surprise that I was shocked by but also confused as to what impact it will have on the franchise going forward if any at all.

And the problem here is that there is a sizeable contigent out there that doesn't really want that Marvel universe structure imposed on the SW franchise. Honestly, who really wants 2 Star Wars movies a year? There is a contigent out there (myself included) that is growing tired of too many Marvel movies and is now reaching the end of its love affair with Star Wars. These studios are killing these rich, wonderful IPs purely by excess. I have literally no enthusiasm whatsoever for Solo.

The thing is, the box office numbers are proving otherwise for both Marvel and Star Wars. I'm intrigued as to how well Ant-Man and the Wasp is going to do, coming off the back of both Infinity War and Black Panther. I feel like, if we're going to see any sign of fatigue, it's going to be there, but I doubt it. I think Marvel has survived by learning to diversify its content, and Star Wars will have to learn that lesson soon if it wants to keep going like this.

the gist is fine.. most of us have an idea of the agenda being pushed by kathleen kennedy. if star wars strive to be better than themselves other than marvel they should be fine. i mean SW has a massive rich lore.. but they choose to go other directions. its quite sad where SW is going under disney.

They made three films I love & one I like but didn't love. I don't think it's sad at all.

That Darn Movie Show It IS a bit sad. The Last Jedi is a structurally, narratively flawed movie and its flaws are largely (but not exclusively) there because the makers couldn't quite stop their political agenda from interfering with their ability to tell a coherent and compelling story, however much some compelling individual sequences remain. What's sad is that the franchise has lost its onetime (70s-80s) universal appeal by introducing a very contemporary adult nihilism. This explains why it garnered good press, but fans are divided, audiences got bored, and little kids no longer want to buy the toys. If people who loved this stuff, Force Awakens included, are now yawning and saying (like Yoda in TLJ) that it's time to let it die, that is kinda sad, really. The fact that there's a new film about young Han Solo and I'm currently debating whether I should go and see Deadpool this weekend IS sad...to me.

That's not an argument you can really make about one of the highest-grossing films of all time. It's cool to subjectively dislike where the franchise is going, but it's a bit pointless trying to project that as objective fact. If the Star Wars brand does actually fail, you'll be able to tell... because they'll stop making movies. Remember the Dark Universe?

That Darn Movie Show i look forward to hearing you speak about solo once everyones been and saw the movie in a later video.

That Darn Movie Show No. It's my opinion. You fall into a terrible position that because something makes a lot of money it must be good and popular. I'm not sure Kermode would agree. These films are getting artistically progressively worse, but keep letting your fan-ship blind you.
