I did a solo bear hunt in the brooks in 2001, i was fine, till the sun started going down past the mountain,,,man did it get spooky at night by yourself, i had no sat phone,, so it was see ya in 8 days from bush pilot,,, got a nice Blond Grizz,,, i went to get morning water for coffee one evening, there was a 5 ft bank and then the gravel bar,, i checked both ways,, NO bear,, so i went down to the river,, got my water and a BIG Dark Boar was cruising along the bank headed for my camp, the wind was out of the south and he was moving north, so i knew he wasnt after my camp,,, he was about 70 yards from me when i saw him, i dropped my water pale and shouldered my rifle,,, A MEXICAN STANDOFF,,,, after i minute or so, i let a 225gr Failsafe 338 fly right between his legs and sprayed him with gravel,,, he didnt move a INCH,,, rut row, you are supposed to haul ass, i fired another round,, same damn thing,, rut row, i got 2 bullets left in my gun,,, he stood there awile and then turned walked away, but then stood up on his back legs and started hoofing at me,,, OH LORD what now ??? Finally he went into the brush, i got to my camp, shot 2 magazines of pistol rounds over the top of the brush and built one helluva a fire that night, it started snowing that night,, and that dang snow would build up and come off the tent sounding just like a bear just ripped it,,,,,,,Long NIGHT,,,, 3 people got mauled that year in the brooks,, My wife said NEVER AGAIN

@@chrisd2p2 You are clearly another one who drinks the convoluted logic kool-aid. I am a vegan, and I acknowledge that a big reason I did was that I was being hypocritical in protesting hunting yet still going to the meat market. It is not on humans to unilaterally impose themselves into the ecological cycle. Killing does not equal conservation. Besides being unethical, it is illogical and bad English. Explain to me how you perform a “service” when many of the hunts involve going to the middle of nowhere to hunt an animal where there is no overpopulation? Not that is the right of humans to manage the wildlife population anyway. If there is such a thing as overpopulation, say deer in a heavily inhabited area for humans, it is because we have culled wolves and other predators who would have controlled the deer population. So, we kill off a predator and use that as rationale for culling the herds of their prey? That’s convenient.
@montuckyman49823 жыл бұрын
@@baseballman4958 I am part of nature. And I eat meat . Life feeds life. A pack of wolves will slowly chase, wear out, and rip guys out of the moose while still alive. And that's ok but I kill and eat too. Humans have eaten meat since there has been humans. This is free range , wild ,organic, highest quality food right here. We respect and preserve and pay for the the protection of all the animals we love so dearly. Yes, we eat them, and yes we love them. Tribes that have lived close to the land for countless generations have these feelings in spades.

@@baseballman4958 are you a vegan or vegetarian? Because if not pipe down and slow your roll. If you eat any beef products, consume any dairy, eat any pork or chicken products whatsoever you are the worlds largest walking hypocrite. This bull moose lived a good life, and died a short non tortured death, far better than any other predator killing it, and provided this man and his family with 500+ lbs of meat. I am against hunting for trophy alone but this man consumed the whole animal, and showed this animal more respect than any meat farm does. In many cases hunting animals is good for that species’ general population and good for the environment as the money from licenses and tags goes directly to helping nature and wild animals. Educate yourself before being a bigot on KZbin.
@baseballman49582 жыл бұрын
@@adammoore1640 First of all, I am a Vegan. One of the primary reasons I went in that direction was, to your point, to shed myself of the hypocrisy I was embodying. So, I agree with that point that anyone who opposes hunting yet buys meat in a store is a hypocrite. I object to the disingenuousness of folks who claim that they are being humane and practicing conservation by hunting. Over the last several months I have tempered my strident stance against hunting, simply because it is a losing battle. I would like to see folks call it what it is and not cloak under false pretenses like humaneness and conservation. Humans are self-appointed arbiters of what is right, I’m pretty sure the animal kingdom is not cool with the arrangement of being the prey to humans with high tech weaponry killing them from a long distance with no chance to defend themselves. At least make it a sport with bow and arrow and knives--a level playing field where the predator’s life is also at risk would be a nice start.

What's the process to get your pilots license for your own personal plane? I'm considering moving to Alaska and was told you really need your own plane to get around to the good hunting spots. How do you judge Moose when you're hunting in those 50 inch restricted areas? I looked on Alaska Fish and Game and it's kind of confusing. Though we don't have those restrictions on Moose hunting where I currently live. Pretty much if it has antlers longer than the ears, it's considered a legal bull

WHAT A BRUTE! GOT A QUESTION FOR YA ~ SO I KNOW THE LAW IN ALASKA IS THAT WHEN YOU FLY INTO AN AREA TO GO HUNTING, YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY TO ACTUALLY HUNT. (NO FLY-IN, AND SHOOT THE SAME DAY). DID THIS APPLY TO THIS HUNT AS WELL? AND DOES THIS APPLY TO RESIDENTS OF ALASKA? ALSO, I KNOW WE "HANG" OUR WHITETAIL DEER UP HERE IN MICHIGAN FOR UP TO A WEEK AS LONG AS IT'S 45* OR COLDER. DO YOU ALSO "HANG" YOUR MOOSE MEAT TO LET IT "AGE" A BIT BEFORE CUTTING IT UP AND FREEZING IT?
@adamgrenda26953 жыл бұрын
Yup can’t same day airborne hunt in Alaska you have to wait the following day to hunt. I saw some moose up the drainage I was going to get a closer look at and I found this 72” bull on the way there. We try and hang our meat but it was warm and usually is so we can’t let it go more than a few days safely.
