Planning on doing a 2 night stay at the gorge. Gonna be my first trip. I live in Cincinnati, so it's a 2 hour drive. Gonna be my first backpacking trip.

My dear friend, this is truly an inspiring video to experience. It's absolutely soothing and relaxing to watch and let the experience speak for itself. As someone who travelled a lot and got lost in life, lost all the passion, the drive, the hunger for exploration I finally managed after years getting back out there, getting the feeling of an adventure and what it means to experience again the great feeling hiking, exploring, and travel gives you. Thank you so much for sharing this video, I am moved and inspired by you and the knowledge you share. Wishing you the best.

I did an overnighter in the Red River Gorge this past spring. Camped near Hansons point and got to see Grays arch. Cant wait to get back out there and explore the rest it has to offer. Looking forward to part 2.

Been section hiking the Sheltowee. You can pick up the overnight passes at your local REI as well. I would call ahead to make sure the have the passes for Daniel Boone before you make the trip.
@Bacon_N_Backpacking2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately my local REI does not have them. I’m in Cleveland. I just did another trip back there a month ago and I just stop at the Shell to get it. Thanks for watching and enjoy the trail!

That makes sense. I’m in Columbus, OH, must just be proximity. Love the videos.

Yeah last I checked Columbus and Cincinnati have them but not Cleveland.

I’m headed there next week with my son and I’m watching KZbin to get an idea of the hikes. I laughed when you talked about parking passes. Every forest service number or email I have ever contacted has been useless. It was an Adventure Archives video that let me know about the parking pass pick up at the Shell. YT for the win. Lol. PS were you able to pick up a topo map at the gas station? I cannot find anything online. There are a few pdfs of hiking trails but no topos.

I didn’t see any maps. I have some stuff downloaded though. If you want to join our FB group “Backpacking Ohio and Beyond” I could send you some maps.

New subscriber. Been really thinking about doing some solo camping since 0 of my friends are into it. I’m just north of the gorge too!
@Bacon_N_Backpacking10 ай бұрын
You should definitely do some solo stuff, it’s very peaceful. Feel free to join our FB group and post if you’re looking for someone to do a trip with. People in the group cover MI, OH, PA, KY, WV, VA, NY and more. We’ll do an annual trip again for the channel this year as well, feel free to drop in on that when it posts later this year.

Maybe I missed it in the video - what trail is this? Do you have a link to your route? This looks like a perfect 3 day trip for later this month. Are you against using a Sawyer Squeeze? I also have a Grayl but it only makes day trips…
@Bacon_N_Backpacking2 жыл бұрын
Mostly Sheltowee trail. Did a few miles on some side trails. I could share the link if you join our Facebook group “Backpacking Ohio and Beyond” KZbin doesn’t allow links in the comments. I don’t really like Sawyers, I’ve had three fail on me, they’re slow and they don’t offer as much protection as a Grayl. They’re way lighter which is nice but I personally prefer the Grayl.

If any of your followers want the info, here is a link to pass vendors (www.fs.usda.gov/detail/dbnf/passes-permits/?cid=fseprd1007653) and you can also get the pass inside the park at the Gladie Learning Center. I've been down there a couple years ago and am heading back for a 3 day solo in a couple days. Just watching to see where you went to.
@Bacon_N_Backpacking2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I ended up figuring out the pass situation. I did see that list showing where you could get them. I just went to the Shell because it was five minutes from my trailhead. Wish they’d set it up so you could just do it online and print it.
