I did an impromptu bikepacking trip down South of England at Kent to catch the sunrise at the White Cliffs of Dover. A short 24-hour microadventure over the sunny weekend at the end of Summer 2020.
The video begins with a 2-minute montage of the highlights of my trip, followed by a recap of it with a storytelling/documentary style, which I gave a go for the first time.
Bike Kit:
I travelled on my trusty Ridgeback World Voyage touring bike, which I revamped into a lightweight bikepacking setup a few month before this trip. I had the RESTRAP large frame bag and RESTRAP 14L saddle bag to carry my cargo. The Swift Industries hip bag is handy too to hold my repair kits, snacks and spares.
It had been a joy to ride this kind of lightweight setup, despite it being heavy still (steel)!
One thing I will do better next time is to figure out a better way to mount my camera tripod in a more steady position and also quicker to retrieve and store when I use it. A front tack may be necessary, perhaps ....
That's all for now. Hope you enjoy this video.
Do give it a thumbs up if you like it. Thank you!
and perhaps consider Subscribe :)
If you have any questions about the kits I am using or any guidance for this kind of bikepacking microadventure, give me a shout and see if I can help :)

Aces! Very beautiful area of the UK. I lived in Folkestone for 5 years whilst working on construction of the Channel Tunnel and explored far and wide during that time, just amazing! Again a BIG shout out for your fabulous camera, sound and editing skills.

Nice Wenture! So the route was Ashford - Folkestone - Dover - Deal & Canterbury!? Do you advise this or have any adjustments?

Thanks, bud. For a 24 hrs overnight stay - yes I reckon the route is achievable. I started by journey late afternoon. If you began earlier during the day, I reckon you can venture deeper into Kent Downs before heading towards south. There are plenty of farm and forest to bivvy in the downs. Or if you are brave enough, bivvy by the cliff and wake up to sun rise! I recommend cycling via North Down Wye cycle path towards Dover. The last bit along the top of the cliff is beautiful.

@@CRsVideoVaults Heya, sorry I had missed your reply on this. I had a look at your route, I don't remember cycling along the A-road in the beginning but more towards inland. I dragged the the first quarter towards the inland which I think is less stressful and more peaceful. Otherwise, the rest of the route looks good! Some steep climb before heading up to Dover cliff that's for sure...haha maps.app.goo.gl/Mf16oJ8HtDA5niLv6

I did this route this weeknd! The ride from Ashford to Folkstone was in fairly heavy traffic which was not so nice but the rest was fairly car free. I stead at Little Swiss Campsite Folkstone & next morning cycled to Dover Cliffs, Deal, Canturbury & planned to get the train back but there were no trains due to Engineering works so I had to cycle to Ashford. Did 96 Km on 2nd day. My Apple Phone nearly died with an hour of cycling left so to save battery, I used it as a hotspot for my Android phone as I was relying on Google Maps for navigation. Do you use any cycling apps for navigation?
@tadwenture
@tadwenture Ай бұрын
Oh gosh, the last unplanned trip back to Ashford must be a leg stretch! I have always been using Google maps for navigation as they tend to suggest national cycle routes for the journey instead of the A roads. I know many riders has cycle computers but I don't think I'm at at level yet. Google maps serves me well and I get a better overview of my travel. Strava recording is nice to have a look at route in the end but does suck up some battery. I tend to just leave the GPS on and switch off my data etc.

@@tadwenture Actually the leg from Canturbury to Ashford was really peaceful and scenic. Lots of nature. I'm thinking of doing this route again soon and improving on it. Now just to schedule it around work. What do you work as? Does it allow you much free time to explore? Cheers!

@@kitsilanomusician2669 Back then I was working as an Engineer, and just so happened the weather was warm on a weekend hence the impromptu trip down south for 24 hrs. As the daylight is longer at this time of the year, this last minute plan sort of works. I'm now working as a bike courier in Bristol, which I struggle to find the time and physical strength to do trips like this anymore. Still possible but maybe less distance.
