G'day I grew up just a little bit North of your location. I've just found your channel a few days ago and love seeing the views from the true High Country. That is, above the Snow Line and Looking down into the vallys. Not in the vally floor looking up at the snow covered hills. I grew up with a view of Mt Bogong , Hotham and Feather Top. I've treked across them, as well as on horse back. I've fished the Murray at the base of Kosciuszko. Slept on a sand bank, with only a fire for a blanket and rubber boots shoved into a fishing bag for a pillow. Oh the memories with my father, they are special times. Your kids will cherish the memories. You could do a deep dive into where the bush rangers hid from authorities. As for the hunting, how about trying some trapping. Fishing and catching Crays by hand. I started when I was young, about 8 years old. Then we moved out of town about 20km Snares, and Rabbit traps from about 10 years old and a .22LR at 14.
@TheBeardedBushrangerАй бұрын
Thank you very much for you comment. Sounds like a great upbringing out in the bush! Something special about those high plains thats for sure. Its my dream to ride on horse back along those high plains. Nothing better then having nothing but a fire for a blanket on a river bank! Thanks for the suggestions, I'd like to camp in some historic ned kelly hide out spots.

Mate that was a great as always Luke. Love where this Channel is taking you and it’s well deserved and I am chuffed to bits for you that it’s now finally making you an income so that you can spend more time doing what you love. I know this has been something you have wanted for a long time. I’ll put forward one request I would love to see again. That collab trip you did a while back on your LLT Channel with Mattsy and Scotty. I always hoped to see another one of those so you could finish off what you planned after Mattsy forgot his car keys last time (was funny I admit, and so true to form of Mattsy). I felt that trip had a lets do it again vibe written all over it 👍. I am loving the Channel mate, I do miss Down Under big time and your videos keep that real for me as it’s now a decade since I was last able to go out into the Bush, but I’ll be back one day. I have an old fond memory of a trip out with my family in Christmas 2009 of me sitting on the hood of my old Landrover with a coffee in my left hand whilst trying to shave with the other hand just watching the sun come up over Silverton near Broken Hill, NSW. My wife is a bit of a photographer and she captured that image without me knowing it, as I was sat there and you can tell that I am just lost in the moment of it all, and never happier. I must look at that photo hundreds of times thinking - yep I’ll be back. Don’t want to be a stranger to the Bush.

Nice casual one, Luke. That was an interesting kettle you had at this camp. Being from South Africa, I have no idea what Spam tastes like. I’ll have to see if I can find it somewhere for my next camp. I’m used to corned beef (and, with Australia being a former British colony, it likely had an abundance of corned beef in the past). A great one-pan breakfast I enjoy is a tin of corned beef mixed with a tin of baked beans in tomato sauce, accompanied by one or two ash cakes/breads and a cup of coffe with added condenced milk.

Have a look at Lerderderg Gorge, up near Baccas Marsh. I tried to follow the river from Baccas to Daylesford back in the day, but it got a bit thick for a kid with no GPS. Lots of tracks cross the river though, so you can plot a decent loop pretty easily. There are also some old mining remains down in the gorge a few hours walk past the car park: some filled in shafts and a retaining wall with cart tracks on it. You have to follow the river, rather than the tracks though. And it's just beautiful country. Good, deep swimming holes along the river that have water even when the river itself is dry. There are some really nice, exposed synclines and anticlines in some of the rock faces too. Just a thought.

Thanks heaps for watching. Glad you are enjoying the channel! Yeah some more more videos on specific stories and people from history is something I'd love to do in the future. Haha I love man from snowy river .. but I won't be no clancy of the overflow haha

Great vid thanks muchly. Would be great to see a few longer vids on KZbin as its so easy to spend time with you and learning a bit on the way. I'm sure you've got the footage.

It is clear we all love your channel, the videos, your vision and our great southern land. Keep up the good work! I would love to see what is involved with the fabricating and building of the tools and equipment used like your water sack, oil skin canvas etc. think it would be really interesting to see.
@TheBeardedBushrangerАй бұрын
Thanks for that mate! That is a really good idea. I have to admit, I feel more confident in the taking gear out in the field and talking about the history .. but I really admire some of the guys who are actually making this old school gear. 2 guys in particular are @peakoilcompany and @southerlandbushcraft
@mitchellfoster1046Ай бұрын
Totally agree with you, maybe you could do a collaboration video with them, go on a small camp and they could talk about their channels the history of the equipment and maybe you can talk more about the history of the camps? I agree with you the history is so important but needs to be advocated more. Excited to see more videos from @@TheBeardedBushranger

Thanks for taking us camping in such a spectacular spot. The old bushies would have been tough men to get up there back in the day. Please watch out for snakes mate 🙏

Yeah its crazy to think when driving up a road, that back in the day it was probably a horse track

Where would you rather camp in the High Country? Riverside or top of the mountain for the views. Riverside for me😁

Rivers for the fishing.....
@TheBeardedBushrangerАй бұрын
Yeah I'd usually always go the river in a valley. Great sandy banks to camp on, good fishing, go for a swim when hot. I love the high country rivers.

@@TheBeardedBushranger It's harder to take a break than it is to start! Get used to finding new muscle groups to get sore, and maybe walking a little more bowlegged than usual when you start. It's actually some good cardio!

Good on ya mate! In the U.S they have a ticket system don't they? Not like us who are free to shoot as many feral deer as we want.
