In all my 6 times travelling to Japan, this is my first time visiting the traditional town of Takayama and the nearby hidden mountain village of Shirakawa-go (which is one of the main reasons that I decided to stay a few days in Nagoya, as they're juuuuust a bit too far from Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka to get there and back comfortably!).
