If you're impatient like me and don't want to sit thru the all the yap: the van cost 68,000, she made bank as a television news reporter for NBC, and now has a video production business. She works up to 12 days a month, the rest of the time she travels. You're welcome ; ).

no doubt he did an awesome job with the build. However, the design is the bomb! Without a good design & color scheme it would not look as good. Kudos to the designer :) My favs are the counter, backsplash & table. WildbytheMile: Could you do a layout vid so it can be mimic'd. I hope to get my own van in the next year or two & convince my BF to travel living "wild" off the grid (majority of the time) for a year or 2.

W/ average rent in San Diego, she'd pay ~25k/year in rent, then pay for hotels when traveling + the cost of car ownership (and bc California the cost of rent for a parking spot for her apartment), I can go on. In 2 years this van has more than paid for itself.
@101perspective
@101perspective 6 жыл бұрын
I think the higher prices you are thinking of are for ones that have already been converted. She got that aspect pretty much for just the cost of materials... which is dirt cheap compared to labor costs. Seriously, she seems to just shake that off as though they parted on equal ground or something. He probably put in at least 1/3rd the cost of the van in labor. Not hating on her... I mean, someone had to get the van. Plus, it sounds like she is more than willing to try to pay him back via advertising on her channel and any other way available to her. Just saying that there is a cost there as well you need to be aware of.

Regarding engine choice, 4 versus 6 cylinder. On a loaded van, which this one is, a larger engine working at lower power is more efficient than a smaller engine working at higher power. You will notice the power difference when climbing hills and pulling a trailer.

I am an adaptive athlete meaning I have a disability. Since I am in sports, I travel a lot to compete. Also, I live in the LA and SD area because of my training and sport. Lately I have been overwhelmed with the cost of living and is barely at home. I am home maybe like 2 weeks or less. Anyhow, my fear is because I am in a wheelchair, I wouldn't be able to do the trailer life. So I started to research van and RV living. I came across yours. At first, I honestly thought you were going to be this hollywood pretty girl. But after watching your video, I can see I love you! I feel your videos has been helpful and is very raw, real, and honesty with everything. I am debating on RV as the tab because I wanted to keep my tacoma which i love! Anyhow, you inspired me to keep on rockin even if you have a disability! I normally dont even leave comments but yours I felt it was deserved! #Thankyou! I thought about getting a you tube channel just because no one in a chair has ever done a full time RV living ....well i havent seen any atleast. Whats your recommendation on cams and editing tools you must have to launch this project?

Your van is outstanding. Certainly no need to be defensive about paying high dollar for something that you could no doubt sell for more than the new cost + construction costs that you currently have in it. The work is done, might take a while but someone will give you a profit on it if you ever decide to sell and you're patient. Had you bought a $65,000-70,000 RV it would have been worth 3/4 that when you drove it off the lot and depreciating daily. Love your vids.

just discovered you and your van is wonderful!!! and I agree about being worth whatever you paid for it!! It is slick and clean and so livable. You can't beat that brand. I love that you get such good fuel mileage...most of the people who uses buses or rv's or tiny homes have a lot less mileage. And your van being the high end model it is you can blend in better in neighborhoods,when necessary.

I have a question and I know this is an older video so I hope you get it. Since you own your own production company, and it appears that someone is doing the behind the camera work for you, meaning you aren’t holding a selfie stick or something, do you have a crew that follows you around on your travels? Do they have their own van or stay in a hotel or something? And you have this hospital gig, so obviously you can’t travel far from your client base if you need to be available every few weeks. I am curious how all this works.

Some constructive commentary. Focus. I know this is the hardest part of self filming. Autofocus can betray you and make the buffalo behind you in focus while you are fuzzy. Use a stand with a tennis ball with writing where your eyes will be and manual focus your camera on that as your stand-in. Second... don't use a 2 measure repeating music loop. And certainly don't use it on consecutive videos. Tons of free or cheap 3 min music clips. Your narration is excellent and your ability to tell a story will set you apart.

She is correct, gas mileage and resale value are good. However, maintenance costs are extremely high and parts availability are difficult. Want to tow a toy or a trailer, it is not much of an option. The Sprinters were made for service contractor's and delivery businesses. Good old fashion Ford, GM, or American Dodge will not provide the gas mileage but maintenance costs and parts availability are great! Except in Europe or Asia but how often do you drive the family there...lol. Great video. Thx

“Sometimes twice a day trips to Home Depot” - sounds about right. And only having 58k invested is a lot cheaper vs a Airstream Sprinter

Labor costs for building one would put you over the top very quickly. But you'd have a custom van.

That van and the van built for under 60k, it is a good deal. I don't know that much on how reliable a 4 cilynder in line diesel engine is but the v6s diesel engines are plugged with mechanical problems. Now the 3.5 L V6 twin turbo air to air engine cooler gasoline motor on the ford transit, it is the best van presently on the market.

Wow! $28k upfront for a home is GREAT. I would suggest shopping around & use recycling for a lower build cost & splurging on a brand new van. It is good piece of mind. Good job!

I think you’re very intelligent for spending what you did on the van project. You would never get a house for what you spent and your freedom is priceless.

You mentioned using a tailor (in another video) for your bench seat cushions...did they also make the magnetic window coverings?

Thanks for the mpg I’ve been hoping for an honest van owner to give a real world figure, indecently is your van manual or auto gearbox/transmission please? Also good to hear a no bullshit approach to van life. Good luck from United Kingdom 🇬🇧

You made a very nice home. I thought about a Sprinter but decided on a Ford E-350 based class C. Sure can't beat 30 MPG. Freedom doesn't get anywhere near that.

You are my inspiration. I want to travel via Sprinter. I have some...life...realities to get through. My parents are in their late eighties and my seventeen year old grand daughter lives with me...so, as they say, one step at a time. I never thought about the 4 cylinder or the short body. Thank you for that idea. Enjoy and be free.

I like how you mention, work your ass for it! Sadly many are looking for an easy way and want the now factor! Man to many are young and if they plan right work hard they can reach these goals.

Hey! Me and my sister are looking into buying a travel trailer and living in it! I know it’s a little different but we want to buy old and remodel it kinda like your van! I was gonna ask about maybe doing a how to video on the not so much labor intensive stuff! Like the curtains and materials! Thank you. I’m excited to follow this page! And cool you are from Tulsa, I’m from Moore! So glad to see a okie on here 🤙🏼

You seem like a nice and genuine person, your lifestyle is amazing, and your videos are inspiring. Please keep up the great work and be happy! Ignore the hate comments. Give your channel a year - trust me, you'll have millions of subscribers. Lots of love from Toronto, Canada, where $40k would last you about 1.5-2 years in rent, lol.

Great video. I want to say this: You sound as though you are "justifying" things (you mentioned "rumors") when in fact you owe no justification to anyone for the great life you set up for yourself. You are stunning, smart, and living free. I celebrate you. Great cost breakdown and gorgeous design.
