Kamikochi is outstandingly beautiful area and I can't wait to revisit it! Mt Oku-Hotaka on the other hand is a tough hike to do in 2 days but somehow I still managed it and could walk the next day (but not very well). I'm super keen to climb more mountains in this area!

There was a time when I hiked and rode a bike for hundreds of miles.. The mountain bike trails and walking every where.. I still walk now but not like before.. I have all those memories.. Do not take that for granted.. The only words that fit are enjoy it while you can.. Time goes by so fast don't turn around because its right there..

I love a historical anecdote about the Japanese Alps. Mount Tsurugi remained as Japan's last unexplored mountain until 1907. It was considered a great achievement in the Japanese mountaineering world if they succeeded in climbing to the steep mountain which was compared to hell. Then, in 1907, when Japanese team succeeded in reaching the summit, they discovered a cane that was used by a practitioner of Shugendō (syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism) 1200 years ago. That is, Mount Tsurugi was already climbed 1200 years ago. When I climbed Mount Tsurugi in 2018, I imagined what the man felt on the top of the mountain 1200 years ago.

Not unlike you, I am in love with the Japanese wilderness and solo hiking. Your mannerisms and emotions parallel my own when seeking the reward of the hike...the peak. Unknown to me today, I stumbled across your video, but, what was also unknown to me today was that I would fall in love with you. While I know life is complicated and never as it seems, I was encapsulated seeing your expressions and reliving similar experiences through you. Can't wait to be back in Japan in less than a month (for a couple months) solo hiking.

Hi, Hannah, Quinlan, in his latest Go North Japan vid, shared what he had been told by a professional guide up in Morioka that bears stay clear of the hiking trails, but that the danger lies in going off-trail. He had some other interesting things to say as well. Beautiful work as always!

Hannah, just a beautiful video, if anything I was drawn in by the music, playing diligently with the visual terrain, heart and soul stuff. Nature is just alive, our commander-in-chief. Great shot selection and use of the drone, can you get the tripod setting and 1 meter per second movement with yours? Phillip Bloom pressed DJI over some years to get that sturdy simple movement incorporated. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the Wonder............

Really appreciate this hiking video! I think (easy for me to say that) that you could take an extra day or hours when doing those activities, sunset/sunrise snapshot times are so epic, I know setting the camera, when we see you, takes times and slow you down but that little extra day (if you can) could enchanced the visual and storytelling. About tripod, I wanted to try this one, but the times it takes to set it up is too slow for my needs on my channel but they have such great design and many practicality! Anyways, love your stuff like always, love the vibe, keep on creating. - Nic

Hannah, you must go back with a sunny day! I’ve been to kamikochi twice and had clouds covering the views the first time and know the anticlimactic feeling. It’s so worth it to climb the mountains again for sunny views. Also, there is a rope way carrying passengers to the ridge line outside of the park. Recommend to onsen towns around kamikochi as well! You can also approach the ridge line from higher elevation from nakabusa onsen in Azumino.

Enjoyed the video - would recommend visiting the central alps whenever you get the chance (Mt. Kisokoma, Mt. Utsugi). They're also part of the 100 famous mountains that you mentioned and I finished them both in a 3 day hike back in May (There was a fair bit of snow back then still!) Elevation change was around 1200-1300 metres up to Mt. Kisokoma if I recall, so should be slightly more easygoing than Okuhotaka for sure! I'll be sure to follow the rest of your adventures as they're quite nice to wind down to. I'm off to Mt. Ontake this weekend myself, but will be sure to be on the lookout for more content from yourself!

Thanks for the video! Last October I hiked from Kamikochi to spend a night at Karasawa Goya and then another night at Chogatake Hutte (actually was planning to go to Kita Hotaka but decided to change to Chogatake because the way up was too hard for me). Your video really brings back memory. I actually booked tickets from Bangkok to Japan again this year in August but due to Covid the plan is down the drain. Hopefully I can visit the Japan Alps again soon.

Btilliant! I've ridden past the Kamikochi entrance dozens of times on my motorcycle (on my way to onsens like Shin-Hotaka or Hirayu or just to visit Takayama) and always wondered it it would be worth it to pack proper hiking gear and take an extra day or so to explore the area. You've convinced me! Love the Heaton-style cinematography too. It takes dedication to hike the same section multiple times to get the shot. (I'm also a happy pd tripod owner but brand loyalty has nothing to do with this.)

Spolit for choice with the Northern Alps. I haven't been able to visit but Mount Tsurugi looks like another beautiful area to visit if you can. If you're not far from the Chuo Alps, I recommend Mt. Utsugi, you can take the rope way to Mt. Kiso and go from their. If you haven't already got it, YAMAP is great, loads of maps to help plan your next hike. The video was awesome, you really captured the beauty of Japan's mountains.
