That's a blast from my past! I always felt that the steep part up to the saddle was easier in early spring snow. We called it Blister Hill. Thank you for a trip back about 40 years! Stay safe!

I tried to climb this mountain three times when I was 14 and 15 years of age. This was before the age of the Internet, so I was not aware of the trail. My attempt was to climb the face of the mountain from Olympus Cove where I used to live. You definitely have inspired me. Thank you for showing what the summit looks like. Congratulations on your hike. It does look like the winter is the best time to go up there because there are fewer snakes.

We hiked the face from neffs canyon in spring of 1978...And slid down snowy crevases. Nice segment,tnxs.

Is this more on the lines of a moderate or along the lines of a hard hike? Me and my wife will be visiting Ogden and Salt Lake in July and were looking for a moderate but still fun challenging hike to a mountain peek. Any advice would be great!
@KevinEassa Жыл бұрын
It’s definitely tough, but anyone with moderate fitness can do it. The elevation gain is big, and the mileage is 8ish miles, so it’s steeeeep. But slow and steady wins the race. The very end has a short scramble, but it’s not exposed with any cliff drops, also just an area that needs to be proceeded with caution. The 360 video is much more crazy looking than it actually is in person. You got this!

My boss and I did this hike today, this was my second hike I've ever been on, the first being also today before this trail. It's an amazing view and tough climb for a novice like me who doesn't work out. Sadly we made it to where we only had 800-900 ft of elevation left to reach the top but had to turn around since we were not prepared and didn't have spikes or walking sticks or anything to help climb the steep snow covered area. We are proud we made it up so far, but sucks we fell just short due to lack of equipment.

@@KevinEassa thank you so much, that's gives us alot of insight. My wife had lung failure a year ago today so trail difficulty is actually detrimental to us, but by what we've heard and what we've seen I think we're down for the challenge. We've done some tough hikes but this by far will be one of our greatest challenges.

@@SaltyCado the steepness is no joke, but slow and steady always wins the race. Lots of water and snacks and breaks. You guys got this!

I'm doing it this weekend, the mountain has a lot more snow on it than when you went.. do you think an axe would be necessary?
@KevinEassa3 жыл бұрын
I follow Iron Cowboy and saw his story yesterday, looks like the mountains have a nice white blanket on them in SLC. I would absolutely take it for safety reasons, if you have one. When I went the mountain from SLC looked completely dry but in all of the tree areas was super slippery snow and even some ice on the steep parts. the rock scramble is super easy, just need to be careful with the snow, I'd bring it just to be safe and will help if the summit scramble is filled with snow

Ya so far this is our worst winter in history. We are way behind in snowpack. It's bad. I've lived here my whole life and this is the worst I've ever seen. This trail is busy AF in the summer but it's way more fun in the winter
@KevinEassa4 жыл бұрын
I couldn’t believe how little snow there was, it was all over the tree areas but it felt crazy being the only one on the summit!
