I was a volunteer Coastguard Rescue Station Officer and they way that I managed casualties like the gentleman you met was to focus on returning them to their loved ones no matter what their motives or behaviour was. I told my team that no matter what our opinion was of them, they all had people who loved them and wanted them safe. I think it helps to think like this no matter how frustrating and silly people can be.

Just encourages the said behaviour and puts other people who may not share that opinion in a position to be taken advantage of. What if you are all up there playing make believe with some idiot and someone is genuinely in need, a life or death situation and no one can come fast enough ? Save the ostentatiousness. Time to stop making excuses for absolute MORONS.

I've been so inspired by your videos and stories Mr Haze that I decided to tackle the Cumbrian way myself. With a 9.5kg pack weight before setting off on my Altras I waved my loved ones goodbye. I met some really great people on the way and was hoping to wild camp every night but it takes alot of balls to do what you do. I managed each day with a good pace and even met a new friend before skelwith bridge. Sadly after traversing the langdales I found myself with a big toe issue. We strived on till Keswick but struggled to find paid camping spot and after a 15 mile day I had to get real and accept I will need to return to finish the route. To anyone out there feeling low and like they should carry on without help from others, be kind to yourself and accept the help from others

Nice one Haze, that's a tough old slog over the moonscape of Esk Hause. Sweet drone shot near the top as you enjoyed your apricot-and-yoghurt-eat-nature. EDIT: I would be crawling out on bloody hands and knees before I called Mountain Rescue. I'd be mortified to ask for help because of being tired, or thirsty. SMH

Fizzy Porridge, sounds like the new go to for breakfast, lol I like the new addition to map time, helps me get a better sense of the terrain, thanks. As for the guy who was "tired", none of us know his story, and there are a lot of things on a climb like that, that can make you tired, and then make you dead. Take care, be well

Another fab vid! Slightly appalled by the guy who was tired and had Mountain Rescue summoned. I fell off an Alp on the TdMB and split my quad and ripped the tendons out of my knee. Had to walk from Switzerland into France (in a fair bit of pain !) and had surgery and a weeks worth of hospital food in the Chamonix Valley. That’s proper Yorkshire, limping into France so you can use your EHIC! Have also made rookie error of buying fizzy water (we actually ended up with 12 litres of the stuff). Had to open the flip top on my water bottle at arms length which went off with a loud ‘BOOM!’, which after a couple of days elicited ironic cheers from the rest of our group!

Hazy, another cracker son! I’m just getting into wild camping finally got all my gear and will be heading off into the Peak District as quickly as I can, thanks greatly to your inspiration. Relating to your vid my fitness or lack of it does worry me a tad, in your valued opinion are all climbs a none starter for newbies or if it’s taken carefully with the respect some of these peaks demand , are they open for all skill levels. (I’m 48, 12 stone 6 foot .)

Another great day in the Fells. And it shows watching you put your merino layer on that you really need to be prepared for all conditions before you take these fells on. And definitely have a map as that low cloud is completely disorienting. Total muppets, imho, who go out with nothing or can’t physically do it and then expect mountain rescue to come and get them. I’ve said it should be that if you use the mountains or go on the sea there out to be some charge to help support MR or RNLI. People pay for RAC or AA to pick their car up so why not pay for MR & RNLI?

Funnily enough I was discussing something similar to this with my wife this morning. With the Salt Path book being made into a film and once released I am sure there will be a surge of under prepared people attempting the SWCP and the number of incidents will increase down there because as with Scarfell it’s not an easy walk!

Passed a young Asian female while descending from Ben Nevis. She could barely speak English, lost her friend and dressed in canvas trainers, jeans, a cardigan and a duffle coat. You're absolutely right about people. People seem to feel they have the right to just go up any mountain they like regardless of kit, fitness or experience. After years in youth of doing hills like scafell I no longer do. I have the kit .. I have the maps... I can nav... I'm well trained but my fitness level n health ain't so great at 60. .. so I choose to do things within my fitness zone.... Not put others at risk to rescue me

I can remember climbing Scafell Pike starting from ODG in the Langdales Valley. My wife and I had our 16 year old daughter and have to say it felt a long old slog up to the top (and back) from there.
