Had Yai is a popular destination for Malaysians looking for some ‘action’ as there are many brothels there. Also, if you want to refuse someone in a polite way you have to say ‘mai aow krap’ instead of ‘mai krap’.

Pattani, Songkhla, Narathiwat and Yala are the four provinces that are ”dangerous”. The reason why is because the people of Pattani wants to be independent like they used to be. Thailand don’t want the provinces to be independent therfore there are many bombings. Thailand blame us ppl for the bombings, but we locals know that it is the government that is doing these stuff. They want to create a bad image of Pattani so that other countries don’t want to support Pattanis independency. But pattani is actually a really beautiful place. We have our own culture, language and our ppl are really nice. Don’t be suprised if you see food like roti and nasi ____. Our culture and language is similar to Malaysia.

@@syedputra5955 Satun was also a part of pattani kingdom I think. Satun is pretty safe I guess. The most ”dangerous” parts are pattani, yala and narathiwat. Songkhla is a bit ”safer” tho.

@chaophray 3 жыл бұрын
Satun (Setul in Malay) was a part of Kedah, not Patani. But the whole Kedah was under Thai suzereinty then, and a lot of Thais moved and settled there. So whwn Thailand made borser agreement with the British in 1909, Satun stayed with Thailand. I think Patani had much stronger memory of political independence and cultural diffrences, hence the struggle has been much more intense there.

Remember, in Hatyai, you have to bargain to half the price they quote to you. From my past experience, only in this city of Hatyai, they always quote you double the price for items of clothing, shoes, leather wallet and bags, etc... However, all the food items are mostly more or less fixed in prices.

The shop opens ard 5pm to 9pm and is packed with locals buying coz its truly fresh & authentic......unlike those sold at places you visited in the video (primarily city center). Hope you will try durian again 😂😂 Yeah, those t-shirts are made of polyester, can't absorb sweat, that's why the price is lower. Cotton ones are much better. Also US UK and the rest of the Europe got the same patern warning.For Thai Songkhla is totally safe, crossing road anywhere in Thailand would be more dangerous, the real issue are Yala Pattani and Narathiwas, Thais would consider not to travel there it no famouse attractions and less facitiess compare to the rest of the country, I dont know why they include Hat Yai but anyway that city is the largest metropolitan in Thailand after Bangkok n its surronding provinces . Hat Yai is over crowded with Malay tourist already.

Agreed. You should go to that region to feel the Hari Raya mood. It's actually safe. Paddy Doyle had been there last month and proved it's safe.

HAT YAI ..... yay, a city visited by most Malaysians. Well, we go there for makan-makan/ street food hunting and shopping.

Used to go to Haatyai for shopping and also the varieties of street food, but have stopped going there for the past 6 years, partly due to news on bombing incidents. Will not recommend you to try Thai durian as the durian flesh is not creamy, unlike the creamy texture of Malaysian durian. I personally do not like Thai durian although I love other Thai food.

Ken, I share you a story from a Thai man I met in Khorat during my sports. He told me that in Hat Yai, he was working as a secret police. He had to keep his eyes behind him, because there are people being killed, just because they do not share the religion of the region. Just be very careful mate. Because if something unfriendly happens to you, you might not be able to tell it to us any more.

I would like to go deep south Thailand and many other places that western governments give travel advise restricting travel. Be careful because your travel insurance could be voided so having an accident or getting sick could be expensive.

Thailand is generally a safe country to visit, but it's smart to exercise caution, especially when it comes to dealing with strangers (both Thai and foreigners) and travelling alone. Assault of travellers is relatively rare in Thailand, but it does happen.

Very true! I had an incident with a couple of racist french guys a few years ago. The situation ended up with one of the french guys getting severe eye and jaw damage -- as he didn't realize I was a golden glove boxer. Just for the record, I tried to deescalate the situation on several occasions.

If you want to try Thailand Durian, try the MonThong . But make sure the ripe one. Don't ever try the un-ripe durian. I don't know why almost durian in Thailand they sell the un-ripe durian. You can tell by the strongest smell durian to tell it ripe or not. Or just asking the seller just pick the ripe/soft durian. And don't buy durian during rainy season. Taste will be not nice too.

To be safe in Southern Thailand avoid hanging out near military post, checkpoints or roadblocks. Generally speaking those locations are the main target for attacks or bombing by the Malay separatist movement in Southern Thailand. But I think right now the peace negotiation between Thai Government and the separatist is ongoing and ceasefire by both military forces are being enforced. So, it should be safe. But still be cautious particularly if you are near Thai military post, checkpoints or roadblocks.

It's not really dangerous in Hat Yai unless you visit during a major holiday. Then again the security goes up during those times. Last i was there was during new years 2019-2020 . The only thing i do not like is that the place is expensive due to the cross border travellers from malaysia and singapore (to some extent).
