Exactly! the average man is on the verge of extinction and ordinary people refuse consciously to recreate so we do not make them slaves to such selfish people. What they gonna do in the end? indeed more resources for them, but who is gonna make them rich anymore? they need the working class to applaud them, kiss their a.sses, consume what they produce, and more. plus, what can fewer people do when they get old, sick, they need other people to come up with new ideas, to create, and produce. things do not get simpler if only the rich, most beautiful and potent people will live on this planet. Notheless, life is not worth creating , because as i see it, no matter who you are and what you have to offer, no human life whatsoever is good.

Very low poverty rate, high college graduation rate, and Koreans are some of the most travelled nation in the world per capita. By far the most travelled people in Asia, you gotta have money to travel outside of your country so much. You'll see Korean tourists everywhere in Asia and Europe. That doesn't sound like a poor nation.

To me the rise in single person households is no mystery given the data presented in this story. There is an aging population. More of the older married people are losing their spouses and entering widowhood. Thus the rise in the 60+ demographic. Given the age distribution of the entire population and the declines in both marriage and birth rates, the number of single person households will accelerate at a rapid pace over the next 30 years.

So I'm continuing the thoughts produced on the program, the young lady also mentioned the younger generation not wanting to marry and or have kids because it means the woman loses her job to raise kids, well, ok. And the man gets paid more to produce the same product or results, that to is good because Mama's are raising kids. So if both of these aforementioned statistics are true, why is it not producing the 'satisfied with marrying and having kids results'??? One reason has to do with rising cost of living-one person income may not sustain a family of say 2- whatever. And, as was mentioned by another, actually several, is the long hours- both for workers and students. So the country is pushing these limits that are unrealistic. Most countries push back on long hours for school children, and working dad's. No one will want 12-15 your days while raising kids. The Cheabol, or Leaders and law makers must see about these details, or else...................
@MrMwurm
@MrMwurm 8 ай бұрын
@@toriahmyworldyou got a point that is interesting. Look at what Many Young Philippina's are currently doing. The country protects the kids from being harassed by older men from other countries, and the women are marrying them, wether for love or money, it's increasing the standards of living and helping to raise the country out of deep poverty. It's an example that can be emulated elsewhere. Just saying

Living alone in major cities of developed countries is not a sign that people have more options, quite the opposite. People choose to live alone because it's completely impossible to sustain a family with the ever-increasing cost of living. In South Korea, for example, if you want a good job with a decent salary, you have to go to Seoul. But everyone wants to go there for the same reason. The result: Everything becomes very expensive. Rent for a tiny apartment, barely enough for one person, is exorbitant. Now imagine having to rent an apartment for a family of three or more? Impossible if you don't have a lot of money. Developed countries are contradictory. They are wealthy, developed nations, but opportunities are only in the capital; the rest of the country is rural, with no opportunities for young people. People have a high level of professional qualifications, but if you want a job, you have to go to the capital. Yet, even with a good job and a decent salary in the capital, it's not enough to afford a decent apartment; you end up living in a tiny cubicle barely big enough for a bed, which is completely unhealthy. But they are still considered developed countries. Controversial and ironic, I would say.

Living solo is a lifestyle increasingly celebrated on shows like "I Live Alone." The featured celebrities showcase the undeniable perks of independence. Imagine having complete control over your space - blasting music late at night, indulging in messy hobbies, or keeping a meticulously clean environment, all on your own terms! This autonomy extends beyond your living space. You can structure your entire day around your passions, be it diving deep into a creative project or finally mastering that new recipe. Social interaction doesn't have to suffer either! The show cleverly demonstrates how fulfilling friendships and social activities can thrive alongside a solo living arrangement. While "I Live Alone" features celebrities with a luxurious lifestyle, the core message resonates: living alone fosters self-reliance, personal growth, and the freedom to prioritize your passions. It's a lifestyle choice gaining traction, and its popularity suggests a growing cultural acceptance of the many advantages of flying solo.

Single person household are growing for a variety of reasons. It's too expensive to marry, much less have children. The expectations parents put on their children when they live at home is too much. What person who is 25+ wants their parents giving them a curfew? This is especially true for women, who have even more rules put on them. Having your own space is just more peaceful, not to mention if you ever get in a relationship you don't have to tip toe around your parents or spend on hotel if they want to stay the night.

It's better being lonely than with the wrong person. Everything is expensive nowadays,even if the government would support you if you had children. I agree with this. While some of the low birth rate has to do with the individualism that dominates modern child bearing age people mind's, I'd argue that a significant percentage is explained by your point as well. This is exacerbated in the overly competitive Korean society that frowns up taking a 'different' path than the 'typical' one. Japan and China I think have a lot of this, too. (I am Korean but grew up abroad).
@baronvonjo1929

@wraspita I honestly agree individualism plays a role. But I think it has already played a role. I know so many people whose parents in hindsight were very individualistic and weren't the best parents. It seem younger people are aware if their individualism and decided not to be bad parents. It's definitely concerning that birth rates are in decline. But frankly it seems like most parents and grandparents were never qualified to be parents to begin with. I'm in no position to tell someone they shouldn't have kids because I think they are unqualified. But I think its very obvious most people are broken and raise broken children who continue a broken cycle.

The reason why in America it's lower is because people can't afford to live alone, so they'll even rent a room in a house to be able to save money. Child rearing especially, because there is a societal pressure to send your child to "tutor schools" which are expensive. Also the first generation of kids that experienced the crazy tutor school schedule has become adults and most of them (who I talked to before) refuse to have children or if they would have children they expressed their desire to move overseas so they can avoid the tutor schools. Tutor Schools AKA Academy, are special schools attended by Korean children after their regular school. The extreme parents enroll their kids to tutor schools until 12 Midnight. Korea is generally safe so kids walking at the dead at night is normal. Some of them have Saturday and Sunday schedule as well.

The fertility rate is far behind the global average of 1.6 children per woman. In 1970, Korean women averaged 4 children per woman, which continued to decline steadily, dropping to below 1 in 2018. The high suicide rates and low fertility rates in Asian powerhouses like Korea and Japan indicate social and health woes in developed economies.

Why the government so afraid of population drop ? Personally i think its a natural phenomenon; overall our earth is heating up and environment is suffering with so many people. In a way we should reduce human population to reduce the stress we are causing this earth.

Tax revenue
@baronvonjo1929
@baronvonjo1929 9 ай бұрын
You can't be serious? A drop in birth rates means less taxes. Less revenue to keep social services up. Older voters means politicians will only focus on older people and their concerns rather than the youth. Older people are less innovative. A younger person is more likely to do start ups and take risks than Older. Maybe a unborn child could actually create solutions to the climate crisis. Less taxes means retirement ages have to go up as the government cant support them. They will have no family to support them in their twilight years. Lower population will just have a decay affect on a society. It's not right but everything is dependent on growth. Without growth businesses will begin to struggle and go under. Maybe in several decades when the population stabilizes it will be fine. But during the years of the collapse most people's quality of life will deteriorate. I guess less people means more open homes on the market so cheaper prices. There might be a few pros like that. But overall not.

FACT: I am single in Divided States of Amerika. I live alone in a forest in a tent 🏕️ on land I bought. The cities and suburbs are too toxic and too evil filled with superficial people who care more about materialism and image over the well being of humans. My dignity and peace of mind is too valuable to be married to a gold digger. No thanks. I would rather keep to myself and save money for tiny home and eat healthier food and no drama. Mental health is just too important.

Divided States smh Your comment reminds me of the I Love Lucy episode where Tennessee Ernie Ford is a guest actor and he plays the role of a country fella who doesn't want to be vamped by city women. Lucy dresses up as a city woman and tries to "vamp" him. He ends up liking it and she has to run for her life. 😂😂😂 You make some valid points. Vanlifing and tiny home living are two popular options here because people just are more free and protect themselves from all the materialism and society traps.

I think Prof. Choi hit it directly on the head indicating the Catastrophic Sewol disaster, how the media, govt, and involved services in the attempted rescue failed to handle it properly as a breach and dysfunction in the social contract with it's growing youth and a need to break away from traditional ways and pressure. I even read a ridiculous article that someone was considering 80 hour work weeks last year(!),

Living alone teaches us to be self-sufficient. In India when young we inherently depend upon our parents, after marriage on our spouse, then children, etc. We should try solo living at least some point in life to get out of this dependency cycle as nothing in life is permanent ... also solo living makes us more open to learning irrespective of age ... eg: cooking, washing, driving, plumbing, new technologies, ... you can't just bypass them as some are needed for daily survival. Yes it gets lonely but the trick is to maintain a fulfilling life full of hobbies and activities, friends grp, etc.

You forgot to mention Korea's toxic tradition when it comes to marriage life. (e.g. toxic in-laws, (mostly) abusive husbands, you're mostly a house maid rather than a house wife to your husband's family specially on occasions where you keep serving them such as cleaning, cooking and washing dishes, like you are there not only to visit but to serve them, etc.) This doesn't pertain to all them but to the majority who still practice this tradition. I'm not saying that the wife should or shouldn't do this & that, but to have at least that balance contribution since they've become one family. Helping each other.

As a student already witnessing these changes, I had to make thorough prepararions during college so that I can go to 대기업(Big companies that pay you 2x than small-medium companies). I just couldn't picture myself making average starting salary and saving enough for the future. While I got a job offer from 대기업, most graduates can't and have to settle for barely sustainable lifestyle and poor working conditions in smaller companies.
