I've watched a lot of these "winter camping" KZbin videos this past winter. One reason is I've been busy healing a knee. And I have to say this was one of if not the most authentic and enjoyable. A lot of the stuff I've seen in amateurish. Stuff I did as a kid before I even got into high school. Still fun to watch but this was a step beyond most. Somehow you've managed to learn enough to make me think you could actually get into an unfavorable situation and still survive. The tarp for instance provides something most people would want a layer of closed cell foam to do. You and your dad are a step ahead of most without even knowing it. I have a sleeping bag almost identical to the one you used. It works OK but I mostly use it for when I'm sleeping in a shelter that has a wood stove. When I want to sleep on the ground in below freezing temps I use an old synthetic filled bag called a Slumberjack. Rated to minus 30. It works well enough so that I can sleep comfortably all night yet when I wake up in the morning the bag is covered with frost. But then again nothing wrong with getting up a couple times a night. Enjoy. Stay safe. And good fishing.

You have come a long ways in just the last year! watching you takes me back in time to when I WAS young man like you.keep the respect for the way of life.

I hope you know what a great thing you do in making these videos and posting them for us to watch. when I was young like you I love to go out and spend time in the woods, but now I'm old and broken down by time and years and can't cut the bait any longer. Now I watch good men like you and remember, Thank you for taking the time and effort to help me relive younger and better times.

Nice video man. Here's a tip i learned from winter camping here in Minnesota. Right before bed, fill your water bottle with boiling water and put it in your sleeping bag... down by your feet or in between your legs. It will keep you nice and warm for a few hours and your water wont be frozen in the morning. And if you wake up again during the night because your cold, repeat. DJ

Everyone deserves a little snack every now and again. I had mine watching your video. Very smart use of your sled as a shelter. It made for a very nice camp. Cool vid man.

Looked like a nice trip. Nothing like meat cooked over a wood fire! Maybe next time try turning the spruce boughs over the other way, the ends will be pointing down into the ground, this will give a little more "loft" to the branches and keep the ends from possibly poking holes into your bag. Good job!

Thanks for the tip!
@craigtegeler46777 жыл бұрын
You are doing well for yourself as an outdoorsman! The hasty toboggan concept shelter is a super idea! It allows you more time to gather firewood and get your meal cooking asap, plus you have more allotted time to hunt and fish! If the weather was to turn super shitty within a drop of a hat, your hasty shelter would put you up more comfortably. So, with that concept in mind, if you were to improve on that; you would be golden for sure! Nice job pal!

the skin on a potato is the best part. take care be safe and keep the vids coming,awesome!!!!
@bigskye6067 жыл бұрын
Get yourself a cheap clear plastic tarp that you can drape over the toboggan. It will prevent drafts and lets the heat from the fire get captured inside with you. It makes a big difference.

No, you don't deserve a snack!! You let those grouse get away!! LOL. Canada, they think of everything. A 'washroom' in the backwoods in northern Saskatchewan? Awesome. Great video. Nothing like a comfortable little nook on a cold night out. Excellent. And if I were there, maybe some of your potatoes might go missing. Probably a chipmunk or something. Subbed and liked.

That is one large Toboggan. Must be nice to be able to carry what is needed and to even sleep in if necessary. Awesome looking dinner. I just spent a few nights in tent at -35c. Make sure I take an empty poweraide or gatoraid bottle to bed and use as pee bottle. Saves having to drag yourself out of a warm sleeping bag at such fridgid temperature, just wiz in the bottle. screw the lid on very tight and go back to sleep :-)

LOL smart!!
@adventure0020067 жыл бұрын
learnt that trick when kayaking. Many times there is no way you can get on shore to go pee, nor standup and go, so you always have pee bottle in the kayak. Just carried that thought into sleeping bag on cold rainy or snowy nights.
@tomm28125 жыл бұрын
Peaceful. Looks like fun. How do you have cellular service that far into the bush? Good camp. That sleeping bag looks like minus 30°F bag. I have one same style and color outside and red check plaid inside. Toasty warm. I have admired your toboggan, mine is more open, and not as conducive to sleeping overnight in as yours. That looked like a 3030 leaning there in addition to your shotgun you are well prepared. Best

Hey man, really enjoyed this video. Loved the solitude and remoteness and scenery of your beautiful part of the country. I've been through the Rockies Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Kelowna, Kamloops etc. but never your part of Canada. It's superb. One question - going solo, don't you ever worry that if you sustain an injury and you have no phone service you could be in real difficulty? Keep up the good wok dude. :)
