Awesome video bro. I love the tiaki of using deadwood even if it makes it quicker to rot out, a solution could be to light a few uncontained fires inside before the moss insulation, feed on oily green matter to give an even tar coating and dry the wood. My highlights of the video were the log pinch level, harakeke string line, kiekie snack and the videography in general, tino ataahua.

same with my brother all over the farm (and native bush) where we grew up. when we ran away, we always ran away up the back of the farm. Mum and Dad never came after us LOL What trouble could we get into in the bush.

nice job, our nz bush is beautiful and has everything to sustain us without tearing it up or wasting stuff. and theres plenty of it. you have so much knowledge , thanks for sharing it.

plenty of it for a small amount of the population to visit. The rest we cut down and sold back to our own people. now we use dead wood to build huts.

The most Awesome video yet. The fireplace is such a good idea! One suggestion: next time run the bark lengthwise across the roof instead or up the roof, and overlap them like tiles. The roof will leak less.

Very cool! I resurrected an old railway tarp camp on the lords river, stewart island. Posted it online and DOC went to town on me for building structures on public land, said i had to remove it and all the material. Clearly I can see this is just in your back yard of course.

You could absolutely win the alone program. But I bet they wouldnt use you because you do not sit around and mope and whinge and wine about your situation or get all retrospective staring into the fire. You get on with life without complaining and if there is a problem you sort it out. Congratulations on a fine build. My brother and I built one years ago for use 2 weeks later in the roar but thats a palace compared to ours. Well done.

Can I recommend, for your next attempt, the use for Raupō for roofing? That was a very popular plant for roofing by the original Māori. Common, easy, to harvest, minimal impact on the plant (pruning is great if you do it properly, helps the plant rather than hurting it), and lasts longer than bark does compared to the effort required to find and harvest it.

Pretty cool, I liked the punga flat where you got the half buried log for another site. Trenching right round and building the floor up gives good drainage. Heavy black plastic roof and 2 walls all one piece, branches laid on top to stop the possums making claw holes. Mostly punga for the walls, I've made a couple like that.
