Video 38 of me liking and then commenting on every new upload to tell the viewers that the Man Alone Podcast is absolutely some of that sweet, unhinged audio/vocal-honey. Psssst. You can hand a person ONE book. They WILL read this book. What book are you handing them? I may just go with The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
@amanisaloneАй бұрын
I would actually agree with this Brothers Karamazov was the most fulfilling reading experience of my life. I read it while I lived alone in the mountains of Nicaragua and even though that sounds very adventurous I was in a job that did not make me happy at all and I felt incredibly lonely and this book made me feel like I had a friend. To think it was supposed to be part of a Trilogy...anyway, second place I would say would be...mmm obviously it would depend what they were looking for or what I was looking for but that's not the question...so hard to say...East of Eden? Blood Meridien? Gravity's Rainbow? Neuromancer? I'm going to go with Blood Meridien. I want everyone to know brutality so no one takes it lightly.

Happy International Talk Like a Pirate Day! I honestly don’t know many people who remember this day!😄 Word of Encouragement: Because of you, I finally have a Solo rpg setup that I actually using to play! It’s basically Black Hack, with some Perilous Wilds, Knave 2e, the one page hex crawl for white box, the deck of many dungeons, and the d20 random tables and Solo RPG GME, by Wilona’s Cave. I felt like was procrastinating for way too long, so I just rolled up a warrior, and did a small 5 room dungeon delve with the deck. Didn’t go perfectly, but it was a fun little adventure, and I already have an adventure ready to go for next session! I genuinely appreciate your videos, sir. I’d been trying to get into solo rpg playing for what seems like years, and now I’m doing it. Thank you.

Like I like how the Oreos sort of scrunches between my teeth when it's been worn down a bit. I'll start a petition about this on change.org and then we can forward it to BeeBee so she can stop her reign of tyranny on my Oreo behaviors!
@boltfan43Ай бұрын
I like to think that the pirate theme offers an adventure that can be a bit more on the comedic side of the situations and the ways you deal and get out of situations. I'm thinking of Secret of Monkey Island and just how over the top it could be. There is that tongue in cheek style comedy that comes with pirates that I don't seem to find in other genres. Lastly, a pirate themed game I find exciting because you can start on a single island, and sail to an unknown destination and you can discover new land or things out at sea. Obviously you can do a lot of this in most other games but there is that over the top nature with a pirate themed game that just does it for me.
@amanisaloneАй бұрын
Okay, not gonna lie I didn't think any of you would have an argument that could sway me but this island point is a really good point. Especially for solo and having an easy and sensical built in system for encountering totally different environments rather than just saying "oh and this dungeon room is like this, and then this one is like THIS, and then this other one is covered in THIS," etc. Islands having their own character makes more sense as in internal logic. Awesome comment. I'm a boltfan-fan

Another great video! Thanks! I’m considering the Kickstarter and I already have Pirate Borg. But mostly I want to get Death in Space at the moment since it’s more like a Knave thing than a Borg thing, which is more my cup of coffee. I really like your videos, and I’m a lot into the idea of playing solo, but whenever I do, I’m getting this “meh” feeling and I get mentally exhausted. And I tilt more into the GM role all the time, generating stuff (rooms etc.) instead of discovering stuff with my character. Do you know this “tilting” problem? But maybe I’m just more into the idea of doing things than the activity itself. I’m always more into listening to people talking about games than actually playing myself. Does that make sense?

@amanisaloneАй бұрын
Depends what ya like! Do you like imagining out different narrative scenes, do you like the idea of journaling and recording a character's thoughts, do you think you'd like something more procedural like a dungeon crawl with randomly generated items and monsters? Usually folks start with Ironsworn/Starforged or Four Against Darkness. Star Trek captain's log has a nice system, anything by Alex T (Ker Nethalas would be good if you like dungeon crawls).

@@amanisalone Its got lots of cool world building, at least i think so. Its a hard boiled recovering post apocalyptic world. The world was at the peak of technological advances, but then a resource war happened and the weapons brought to bear were so devastating that the loss of life and the release of so much spiritual energy at the same time as a cosmic event cause the dormant leylines on earth to be reawaken. Where these lines of eldritch energy crossed Rifts to any spot in time, space, or dimensions, and so the earth was reformed with alien elements as well as creatures and people, known as D-bees, flooded into the world. The game takes originally takes place in whats left of the USA, but there are lore books for pretty much the whole world.
