I enjoyed your video and decided to subscribe. I have not sailed Galveston Bay. I grew up in Nueces County and have sailed bays around Corpus Christi and the highland lakes of Canyon and Travis. Retired in Colorado, so getting to see your videos of the Galveston Bay area brings back fond memories of my early life growing up on the Texas Gulf coast. Thank You.

I’m glad you liked it. I’ve only been to Corpus Christi once and it was at night. Is the water prettier down there, than it is in Galveston Bay? It looks better in pictures, but you know how pictures can be. I really need to take a weekend trip to Corpus Christi Bay. I’ve been wanting to check it out for years. Thanks for the motivation.

HA! I use to have my boat on that exact pier years ago! Back then, the fuel dock was called Three Amigos and always was over run by sixty year old bald guys with very large cigarette boats that always was full of young women they probably meet at a 'clothing optional' night club (if you know what I mean). They would show up around ten on a Saturday morning, buy a bunch of ice and beer, fill their fuel tanks and charge it all on their credit card (around $800), take off like a bats out of hell down to the gulf coast. Return in the late afternoon and repeat it all over again on Sunday morning but with a herd of different girls.

I remember the old Three Amigo store. Clear Lake boating can be a little wild. The Gazebo near my pier is a good spot to view it all from. Nothing beats life on the water. I appreciate you watching.

Hello from France. Thank you for these beautiful pictures. I have only sailed in the Mediterranean, up to Greece, also, I do not know the bay of Galvestone, which seems pretty. I just know that my ancestor, the pirate Jean laffitte had anchored his ships there for some time, after fleeing Louisiana, in the early 19th century....
@smallsailboatbigwater3959
@smallsailboatbigwater3959 Ай бұрын
Jean Laffitte pretty much founded Galveston Island. He took command of the island, set up shop and started his smuggling/privateer biz. Galveston Island began its life on the fringe and not much has changed. It’s “Near Texas”. Thank you for the great comment and letting me know where you’re from.

That was a beautiful video! Been subscribed 4 awhile now! Since U 1st introduced ur little Compac! I also 10:47 have a Compac 23 “Airtime”! We spend more time on it than on our C&C 33! It’s just simply a fun boat 2 sail & the shallow draft opens up these shallow Texas Gulf coast shores 2 more adventures! I have an autopilot, but rigging genny 2 tiller steers great! Tried main 2 tiller also, but headsail 2 tiller works great! Thanx 4 the vids! 👍❤️

Thank you for subscribing early. It’s a real motivation to know someone’s out there. I did a lot of comparative research before buying my CP 23. It’s been so easy to own and a joy to sail anywhere I want to go. On my next little voyage, I’m going to definitely try sheeting the tiller to the jib. Hopefully I can get some video of it working. Thank you so much. I really appreciate you.

I sail in the same grounds. I did a charter boat on the 4th for fireworks. Yes the current seems pretty strong. I have a Oday 222 and shopping for a 28-33 foot as I am usually a solo sailer as well. I have my boat setup with a ST 1000 auto pilot so I can step away from the tiler as well. I just use a Jackery to power it. Heck I use Jackery's to power everything. Simple to set up and store when not in use. I love the marina you are in, wondering what the cost will be for a slip. I have been lake sailing last couple of years on lake conroe and never enough wind. Love the video!
@smallsailboatbigwater3959
@smallsailboatbigwater3959 Ай бұрын
I’ve never chartered a boat or done anything like that. I bet it’s a lot of fun. I love the Jackery idea. When I bought my boat, I removed all the electronics and wiring and have been doing the same set up as you with my Ecoflow. I love the idea of being able to remove anything of value from the boat when I leave and put it in climate control. I would love to have an electronic auto pilot someday. I have a floating boat slip and it cost me $285 a month. And I believe my boat slip would hold a boat up to about 28’-30’. I love the Shipyard. I’ve had boats in and out of here for a good portion of my life. Great to hear from you.

I always find it odd, when I’m on the Bay alone. 7,000 boat slips in Clear Lake, but I still have the place to my own. Sailing a small, simple, sturdy craft gives more than it takes. More people need to know about the benefits of sailing this way. There’s lots of good deals to be had and still plenty of room. Thanks for watching and hit me up if you want to sail or ever need crew.

This was a great video. Nicely done with beautiful music and drone work. It's rare to see videos come out of Galveston Bay and I think this my first from Seabrook Shipyard. Loved the shots of Clear Creek Channel. In the closing when you listed the last things to take care of, you left out the very last thing; T-Bone Tom's for the post sail dinner. I'd go for the CFS, shark egg, and a tall ice Tea. Thanks for the ride. The Compac 23 is a great boat.

I need to revisit T-Bone Tom’s, it’s been at least two decades. But, for some reason, I think it’s going to look the same. Am I right? There’s some things that you just don’t want to change. Tom’s would be one. I really love this neck of the woods, once I found it, I haven’t wondered far. Thanks for watching.

Great video. My present boat is a Nimble 20, Ted Brewer design. I’d appreciate your input … thanks
@smallsailboatbigwater3959
@smallsailboatbigwater3959 Ай бұрын
Well, if you want my completely honest opinion read on: The beautiful lines of the Nimble 20 are undeniable and she’s able to float on only a light dew. But, there’s a few features I’ve yet to gain an appreciation of. For starters the stub keel seems underweight by about a third. I wonder how tender she is with a 21.57% ballast to displacement. Some say a canoe stern helps in a following sea. Will this design ever face such conditions? She’s got a decent beam but a double ended design still cost a lot of space aft. And then there’s the ketch rig. The long haul cruiser will appreciate the versatile rig in various weather conditions and it breaks up large sail areas into manageable ones. And it’s beneficial in easing weather helm in strong winds. Offshore, that mizzen mast could serve as a crucial backup to a failed main mast, adding a level of redundancy. Yet, all these ketch rig advantages might be overkill for a hull designed for inland waters if not shallows. Or maybe I’m just not seeing designer Ted Brewer’s vision for this boat. It has a following, so I’m sure it has a lot of good qualities. Thanks.

I was disappointed in your video. It’s only 13 min. You did well. Was hoping to see a little more on solo raising/lowering sails, but the rope trick is good. I am learning and have had problems getting sails down. I like the cliche about hitting the dock. I grew up on trinity and east bay. As a kid, I remember being told there were once dolphins in the bays, although I’d not seen them, until the last 5 years or so. Remember the bays were declared polluted, maybe early 80’s to 95. Maybe we are doing better. Wouldn’t that be nice to hear about our generation! (I’m 66) Your video was alluring. Your tone, your message, attitude, very calming. I think you got the message you were hoping to project across.

Yes, the pelicans and the dolphins seem to be making a huge resurgence. Undoubtedly due to healthier water. I’ll try to show more of the raising of my hank on sails in future videos. I really appreciate you watching, thanks.
