This is a lot of work but hear me out... Most importantly, always go into your tack with "full speed", even if that means cracking off ten-ish degrees. Next, sheet that main in, travel it to windward. You want the boom above centerline, this is going to help swing the aft end of the boat through the tack. You want to do this RIGHT before tacking. Next, when the bow swings through "head to wind", dont release the old jib sheet, keep it on the winch with a couple wraps, "back wind" the jib, this will help push the bow down to course on the new tack. Once the boat is down, close to a "speed build" (10-15 deg down of close hauled) heading on the new tack, release the jib and sheet on the new tack. Your main will already be in position for this heading as you had it sheeted, but traveled to (now) leeward. Allow the boat to reach speed before sheeting the jib, followed by the main, as you steer up to your close hauled course. One last tip, dont be afraid to steer the boat aggressively. You have to get thrugh head to wind quickly when the forces are against as they were in the video. Smooth steering, always, but turning quick is A OK. The goal is to get the boat on the other board, even if she is stalled out when you get there. That'll be a hell of a lot more efficient than having to gybe. Love you videos man! Hope this helps. Reach out with any questions. I have a lot of miles on a variety of boats. Cheers

@@AnitaShower activities would be great. But storing it would be a challenge at the moment. There are lots of activities I want to do. But living in the desert the heat makes those kinds of things unbearable. Excuses I know, but everything I’m due time. I just have to figure out one thing. And everything else will work itself out.

On my much smaller boat (18 ft) I find reducing the headsail size when reefed maintains a better balance. With a reefed main and full headsail your CE moves forward which causes more lee helm (desire for bow to turn away from the wind). Since you have two headsails, switching from genoa to your working jib when reefed will help restore the normal balance.

OK Dylan.. Listen to me.!! To get through the eye of the wind when tacking, Leave the headsail where it is and let the wind hit the backside of the sail to push the bow through 'Irons'. It's called 'Backing the Sail. Then, once through, sheet the sail over to the correct side. Also, you have 'right of way' when under sail. That Red Fishing Boat 'should' give way to you. Your failed tack and then gybe would have just confused him and made you look like an amateur. Last thing; Leave the muddy anchor just under the surface of the water for a couple of minutes while motoring to wash it off.

Thanks for the great videos. I'm thinking seriously about buying a 380-series Morgan, and I'd love to know your overall impression of the design. In this video, you had considerable trouble convincing the boat to tack, and I'm curious as to whether you mostly attribute that to a somewhat fouled bottom, or do windy conditions sometimes have that effect? BTY, I think your observations concerning success vs. failure are spot on. Thanks again, and happy sails.

In this situation, I let off port and starboard lines to jib and just tack with the main…and then set the jib…

Dear Dylan, nice sailing! Yeah, as others suggested, keep your sails balanced...Oh, BTW, do you know you can use AUTO pressing +1&+10 to tack to starboard, right? If you do it on WIND it will even mantain the correct angle on the other side...very handy when solo...All my best to you

Not to be an arm chair sailor, the leech of the main should be tight which will help to point higher.

Hey Dylan, do you have a snubber on your ground tackle? It’s imperative that you use it at anchor. 👍👍👍

I see, Chondri Ammos is about 10 miles east to that (39.30688, 23.33472). I guess it wasn't just the tacking problem and the upwind direction. You probably had the current against you. It is pretty strong in the Orei Channel, it can go up to 4 knots. Keep sailing, keep posting.

great sail! I think reefing the main messed up your tack. Maybe reef the Jib sheet too?
