The Solo lite is essentially a well built albeit pricey hobo stove. All the use cases you would have for a hobo stove (fun/prepping/survival/ being an actual hobo) will work for the solo lite. Plus you can use the alcohol burner in the Solo if you like additional fuel options.

I have a small toaks titanium twig stove. It's been reassigned as a back up stove now. It's much easier and cleaner using an isobutane stove, we use a snowpeak. The twig stove will leave a nice layer of carbon on your pots/pans and that can get all over your hands and other gear. Our last trip we were low on isobutane so we tried out a technique I saw somewhere to make a stove on soft ground... dig two holes next to each other and a tunnel connecting the holes, one side is your twig stove and the other side is your air intake side. It worked great as a backup.

Sweet! Thanks for sharing all that

The solo is great, but the soot will cover the bottom of your pot. It's a great back-up for backpacking if you want to carry it.

Yeah the soot gets annoying

Would Be curious on the weight difference between the woodstove and the fuel stove with an empty canister
@FinerBub3 жыл бұрын
Great question! The Solo Stove weighs 9 oz and the MSR weighs 2.6 oz. A small gas canister has a net weight of 3.9 oz or 110g, and a gross weight of 7.4 oz or 211g. Hope that helps!

@@FinerBub seems like a no brainer to go with gas stove on longer trips. I do like alcohol stove for short trips. Nice review

Yeah this was exactly what I thought. I mean I get there is a draw to building a fire, but when it comes to camp efficiency the iso-propane stoves are so much better. If I run out of fuel, I would build a fire.

Yeah it looks awesome

@@FinerBub I keep everything from bic lighters to ferro rods to make a flame, but I cannot speak highly enough of the PR Deluxe with its piezo ignition. Its just right there everytime you need it. The enlarged burner and windscreen (ripped off diectly from the Soto Windmaster) make for a quick-boiling good time. I don't count grams, so the extra weight is inconsequential. It nests nicely inside the 450ml and 700ml Snow Peak pots.

Nice! I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation!

Don't you have soot on the bottom of your cup with the solo stove?
